Star Wars VIII : The Last Jedi [WARNING: SPOILERS]

I don't see how the start changed the vision at all. The end of TFA was Rey (and the rebellion's) perception of Luke, that he was going to be some mysterious figure that was going to return and solve all their problems. In truth he wants nothing to do with the galaxy and just wants to be left alone

And let's not pretend that Lucas had one consistent vision, he changed a lot of things as he went, even something as simple as lightsabers starting off as heavy, unwieldy things and turning into flamboyant weapons.
And Luke and Leia not being related originally I believe too, otherwise the kiss in IV would likely never had happened.

Do you seriously believe that?
They have shown very little direction after that movie. It was all over the place. Finn had miraculously recovered. No story of how Snoke and the First Order came to be. Luke behaving completely out of character from the one we last saw. A casino section thqt was a complete mess and an ending that didn' exactly build hype for episode 9. Disney only seem interested in selling tickets and merchandise. If they keep releasing tosh like that, sales of both will be down before they know it.

Luke behaving completely out of character? He didn't even speak in TFA
Finn recovered, likely using Bacta just like Luke did in the original series. Hardly a huge change in direction.
I don't think the casino section was a mess exactly, they just wanted to have Finn in the film a lot but didn't have anything for him to do in the main plot. it's hardly a change in direction.
Disney are smart people, you only have to look at what they've done with the MCU to realise that they want much more than just a quick merchandise cash grab

Don't worry, they're not short of ideas. I bet Disney have the next 10 SW films already mapped out.

That would have this trilogy been mapped out though also.
On the contrary. TFA is a bad copy of New Hope. And on TLJ
they pulled scenes from Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and made the film.
Look at it closely. The significant majority of the scenes from those two films. Nothing new

Yeah I can’t understand the hate. I think people went in with the film they wanted already played out in their heads.

Maybe because is a stupid super hero movie, and not Star Wars?

Prequels are better than these new ones. :( Maybe the next film can save it.

Yes. It has come to this.
But those last two films are not Star Wars. No general plot. Just a group of scenes making a film
As for the
Rey parents been nobodies, I can put a bet to "Rey you are my sister" or the opposite dialogue on episode 9. Kylo said on TFA that Han was nobody hence he killed him that easily

People will be shocked (they shouldn't), for this "touching" scene and call it the best movie ever.

Regardless if anyone who has bothered to follow the Star Wars books, and read the New Jedi Order books the last 30 years, knows that Han and Leia had two children and how they turned up. (and the latter is no spoiler, because is everywhere for 30 years now).

Maybe to degrade more Han (which is the pattern to degrade white men in these two films) the mother could be a flick showing that he was cheating on Leia.......

I can bet my GTX1080Ti on this........

He's behaving 'out of character' because last time we saw him he had turned his Father, the Emperor was dead and things were looking good.

Since then his protege Kylo Ren had massacured people and gone to the Dark side (Those aren't Last Jedi spoilers)

Finn was clearly in a new version of the Bacta tank and had been unconscious

Anyway - After Star Wars and Empire Strokes back did we know the story of how the Empire and Darth Vader came to be? Nope.

What's the difference, other than everyone wants to know everything these days. And as we know, back stories don't necessarily make a character better (Anakin in the prequels...)

Exactly. He was a mysterious hologram in Empire Strikes back (ring a bell) and he died in Return of the Jedi....

we knew exactly as much about the Emperor in ROTJ as we know about Snoke in Last Jedi.

The Luke behaving out of character part was aimed at his anger and willingness to apparently murder his own nephew in his sleep. If that's not completely out of character for him then I don't know what is.

No one knew who the emperor was but he was the first big bad we had seen. The state of the galaxy is as we first see it in a A New Hope. A lot has happened and I feel we deserve to know how the first order came to be after what happened at the end of Return of the Jedi. The empire was decimated then all of a sudden some random new guy pops up and rebuilds it with seemingly unlimited resources and Luke and the rest of the Republic just stands by and let's it happen.

Saw this last week. Possibly the worst film I have ever seen, thoroughly disappointed.

Filled with forced, cringe worthy humour and has a rushed, pointless plot.

Kids today aren't obsessed with Star Wars in the same way as we were at the same age. It's all about MCU and their movies. Which has stolen a lot of the thunder. Yes they make big bucks in the cinema. But are more quickly forgotten about than the MCU movies.

Interesting you say that, my son gets stick for his marvel love at 8 from his friends and spider man stuff as being a baby while they console it all day. Also very very few of the films he’s been able to watch in the MU because they aren’t suitable and very very few of his friends have seen much of the new films. My son gets his fix with a marvel unlimited comic sub because I don’t think some of the films are suited for 8. Star Wars is.

Bloodlines does help with this. It is a decent read. The republic falls apart and has no interest in going after the first order. So the resistance has absolutely no backing, yet can see what is happening. What isn't clear is what the new order does when it leaves the galaxy into the unknown regions. Again though, it shouldn't take a book to explain what is a big change from where we left these characters.

Ah, my Nephew is 10 and it's the opposite for him, Him and his mates are Marvel fanatics and are bricking themselves over Infinity War

Star Wars was just a nice snack before the Marvel main course. But after christmas it'll be Star Wars who? They weren't looking forward to TLJ in the same way or at the same level as they're looking forward to IW.

This is my experience of the teenagers I know. They go on and on about the marvel films, but seem pretty lukewarm about Star Wars.

That is hardly surprising, the MCU has established success over almost 20 films plus tv shows etc. The new Star Wars universe is still relatively new and trying to appeal to both new fans with the new films as well as fans of the old films with the in between films.
