Star Wars VIII : The Last Jedi [WARNING: SPOILERS]

Just to be clear I called 'I am your father' first in the TFA thread (Luke being Kylo's father probably - so he's still Vader' grandson), so you can all bow to me when it's revealed.

Edit - As I wasn't clear, the twist I am suggesting is that Leia isn't the biological mother of Kylo. He is a descendant of Luke, not Leia.

I'm a bit Star Wars-ed out at the moment.

It makes sense, my biggest niggle with Star Wars for as long as I remember is the idea that "balance" in the force requires the complete and utter annihilation of one side or the other. Not balance at all, that is religious extremism and it would be nice to see them portray both as "bad" and find a middle path.

.

People get hung up on the meaning of bringing balance to the force but it was explained properly in the Clone Wars series and Anakin's real role in bringing balance to the force and it had nothing to do with life in the dimensions they knew it. Anakin was not supposed to bring balance to the force by destroying the Sith at all.

As for the films I'm already bored of them and will pass the baton to my son to enjoy the universe going forward, not a fault of the new films but I had invested a lot in the EU so feel like I have already done this before. My boyhood dreams of Luke becoming the all powerful and wise Jedi were fulfilled in those and now I live in fear that Luke doesn't live up to that. I'm sure the film will be fine, the originals in all honesty viewed outside of a 9 year old boys eyes were only average anyway, I have had zero desire to re-watch TFA and Rogue One but I can sit there happily watching my son's eyes glaze over watching this on the big screen.

No doubt a Rocky training montage and a cave for Rey to be tested and a head to head with the Emo knight like empire.

Yes he is supposed to bring balance by destroying the Sith. I've badly worded my point above but when you read around in the past the force was split into light/dark and there was nothing wrong with this. Call it ying/yang perhaps as a good comparison.

He IS supposed to destroy the Sith as they are over balancing in favor of the dark side. Hence why I find the (rumored) assignation of the "end of the Jedi" comment on the trailer to Luke as the (new, by new post old republic) Jedi are equally as bad as the Sith in unbalancing the force.

First wake up post was bad, hope the above clarifies my point.

Looks just as terrible as #7... JJ Abrams officially killed star wars... at least his Star Trek wasn't quite as bad.

I disagree on his Star Trek not being quite as bad. He took something that's about discovery and exploration and somehow turned into lens flare meets Star Wars in a flying Apple store. At the time I thought he would be the perfect choice to direct any new Star Wars film. I can only assume that when Abrams got the call to make the new Trek film, misheard what was said and thought he was being hired to direct a new Star Wars film. Little did I know, he would get that gig as well, and would screw that up too...

I wasn't overly impressed with that teaser, but the lack Abrams being involved does give me some hope that this will be an improvement on TFA.

People seem to be getting confused when members say the teaser looks bad, and thinking they are saying "the movie is going to be bad"

The teaser trailer is terrible, whoever was responsible for it needs sacking! anyone with basic premier skills could have done a better job. The job of a teaser is to wet everyones appetite, well mine hasnt been wetted, it's bone bloody dry

I'm sure the film itself will be great

Maybe, just maybe they are saving the best bits for the actual film (would make a nice change actually). Imagine seeing something epic for the first time watching the film, rather than know its coming because you've seen it in a trailer.

Then again, the theatrical trailer might blow that idea away lol

you are welcome to that opinion. I however really enjoyed the teaser. It got me excited for the movie and anicipation is growing now with what might be in the final movie.

I really don't think that Rey is Luke's daughter at all. Leia makes no mention of Luke having a daughter at all, neither does Han. Sure, I think she was a student of his before he left, but related or daughter? IMO that would be extremely lazy of the writers and probably wouldn't go down well to recycle yet another Star Wars OT trope.
