Star Wars VIII : The Last Jedi [WARNING: SPOILERS]

I must have watched over a dozen YouTube videos of Star Wars fans breaking The Last Jedi down, all absolutely gutted at what has happened. I am kind of addicted to watching them because although the film is garbage it re-enforces my love for the original trilogy knowing other people feel the same way about it.

Thats the problem with Youtube though, you watch one video and end up being 'suggested' videos which are an echo chamber of the same viewpoints.

I watched one (badly edited) video trying to make out that Mark Hamill hates the movie, and now I've got loads of videos like that.

In most of them he's just messing about or comments are taken out of context.

If it's not in the movies, it's not canon as the old extended universe stuff was thrown out of the window.

It's not quite that simple, "Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi" stories (telling the same tale) were released after Disney took over SW in 2012 and threw away the old EU canon. It's part of their mythology now. Anyway - what were you trying to say, where was your question leading us?

I think you missed my point. I'm not looking for balance of opinions, I know what people who like the film think. I'm enjoying wallowing in these negative videos.

She beat schooled/trained Jedi at first try.

Are you sure about that? This isnt the old Jedi Order with a highly disciplined training programme. That was ALL destroyed in Ep3 and all the Jedi were killed. Kylo clearly isn't anything like as skilled as the likes of Qui Gon, Obi One, Yoda, Darth Maul or even Anakin. He is also very arrogant which is a huge weakness.

The person Kylo was learning from was Luke, who lets face it had 20 mins with Yoda and went off to fight what was left of Anakin/Vader after Obi One gave him a good slapping in Ep3. Luke is far from a Jedi Master, he is strong with the force but not a Master by any stretch of the imagination. That takes decades of disciplined training and mentoring from the Jedi Order which doesn't exist anymore. The fact Kylo wasn't very disciplined or even that good was shown in TFA and TLJ.

Luke was back to finding his own way through the force and attempting to re-build what was lost but he failed.

Rey is so powerful because she bought the DLC with the rations she saved before BB8 found her. Kylo Ren is just a kid who got it for christmas and he has to grind to get the same skills....:p

It’s not canon. It’s now a legends series book, therefore irrelevant. It was released after they took over as it was in work, but it’s still a legends book.

I think anyone can see Kylo is pretty far from a trained jedi/sith.
He's still probably the guy with the most Jedi/Sith training alive since the prequel era though considering he was trained by both Luke and Snoke for who knows how long. He should be leagues ahead of Rey who is adept with a stick and learnt about her force powers about 3 days ago.

He was trained by a guy who was barely trained himself, so he definitely has less training than Luke :p

Snoke we have no idea what he can do himself or what he trained Ren to do, we don't even know if he has a lightsaber.

Other than Luke obviously :p.

That's my main issue with how they handled Snoke. He was the supreme leader of a remnant army and a jedi/sith of questionable power, we have absolutely no real way of gauging it. People say we didn't know much about Palpatine in the OT either but at the very least we knew he had one of the most powerful and feared Sith lords in Vader on a tight leash suggesting he was equal to or exceeded Vader's power. Snoke we know pretty much nothing and in TLJ he was basically thrown away because he got in the way of the story Rian Johnson wanted to tell.

AThere's now no momentum going forward, no mystery or plot to discover, no sense of raised stakes for the last episode

this is one the most disappointing things about this movie (which i liked but didn't love).

where does sw go now? its just a boring rey vs ren for the next movie, light vs dark, been there, done that.
Despite being a fantasy, star wars has always been a very limited universe and this film just limited it much more - i think the whole franchise is bankrupt of content, its impossible to be new/fresh in this universe it seems.
