Steam link gaming thread.

Getting abit frustrated with this, watching movies, using the desktop is fine via Steam Link... But how the bloody hell do I stop the controller from being used for desktop control, as I'd like it as if it was plugged into the main computer - xbox 360 games/hyperspin etc

Not sure you can, however, when it comes to emulation (hyperspin and the like) you can use Retroarch and Ice via the Steam link.....

Not sure how much discussion if any is allowed on here, but if you google 'Retroarch Steam' you'll find a blog and YouTube video of it working a treat.
Takes some setting up, but well worth the effort.

Fixed it, even though I've had to use an extended USB cable, I've plugged my Xbox 360 controller into the main computer and NOT the Steam Link device. Works much better :)

It's absolutely brilliant! Launching SNES and Megadrive games straight from big picture on the TV is an emulation dream come true!

I had a great time working through Desert Strike and then Jungle Strike. Fantastic fun.

It's also possible to exit the emulated game into retroarch and then play any other system that can't be loaded direct from Steam.

Starting to get a bit OT, but a good illustration of the potential and versatility of this thing.

Fantastic piece of hardware.

I have using my link for everything from web browsing, kodi, and of course steam games. I'll using this for emulators too now

With my Zen set up using software encoding I decided to give my Steam Link a proper go on my 55".
Ended up playing Prototype 2 from start to finish and put a few hours into the Witcher 2.

Worked absolutely perfectly.

Bought one. Only cost me £8.80 as somehow I had £7.19 Game credit.

Would have been rude not to.

Has anyone had success getting non-steam controllers working on non-steam games on this? I've been trying to get AC:Syndicate working without much joy. Controller works inside the steam link itself but it just doesn't seem to be detecting the controller in game itself. In steam games it's fine. Not tried any other non-steam game yet.

As you can see Syndicate has a keyboard icon whilst Outland has a controller icon.

Probably a stupid question. I have had a link since launch used other Ethernet plugs etc. It was fine. However my pc is now in range enough to my tv that I just use a HDMI cable from desktop to the tv.

Is there any benefit from Ethernet and steam link directly (no power plugs) over just hdmi as i now have it? I imagine my steam link is now redundant or does the link itself make the user experiance easier or anything?

Sorry if this makes no sense :)

maj, what controller are you using? Xbox controller works fine.

Loving my link now that I have ditched power line and put in cat7 along with my new 65" tv :D

Just need steam link to do 4k now!
