Steam link gaming thread.

I use a Razer Turret so I have full m/k control, my issue when a screen like this pops up I can't actually click any buttons with my cursor, tried with the steam controller too, nothing happens

Have you tried the right trigger on the controller to click? Both my Xbox and Steam controllers use the right trigger to click popups through the Link.

Right, I got myself a Roccat Sova in the end (with a Corsair M65 Pro). Must say I'm very impressed with the Sova. I'd spent a fair bit of time trying to get used to the Steam controller and then the DS4 for games like FO4 but still wasn't completely happy.

A week later and I'm enjoying my living room gaming much more now that I have the option of a comfortable KB+M. Get your posture right and the position is very natural with elbows pretty much level with wrists and nicely supported to avoid fatigue.

Here's a quick summary of my experience:

Pros:
- Great Build quality. My first mechanical keyboard in fact and very satisfying response.
- The wrist support is much appreciated after a few hours' gaming. It feels natural.
- Mouse pad is a very good size. No silly amounts of picking up and moving the mouse needed.
- Nicely customizable (blue) backlighting options.
- Padding on the underside is nice and comfy.

Cons:
- It's big so you'll need to find somewhere to stash it.
- It's expensive. If you're handy at DIY maybe you could make something yourself with a wrist support.
- Only one backlight colour scheme. Colouring would help (See below).
- F keys are crushed together due to the design so are tricky to locate quickly.

Other notes:

- You'll need to support your lower back with a cushion in all likelihood to avoid sitting in an unnatural position. Slouching is going to be bad for you!
- The latest build of the Steam Link software has broken VirtualHere so you can't share the KB+M directly to make use of all your mouse button macros. :(

Cheers buddy, do you get any discomfort from the edges of the keyboard on your wrists?

Sorry I'm awful at responding, non what so ever, I use it daily and I love the Turret, my only problem is the lack of backlit lighting

Glad you enjoying the Sova, it does look like a brilliant product

whts the streaming liek these days? not interested in the link, but looking to stream from desktop to laptop. is wifi ok or is ethernet really needed.
haven't tried it n probably 2-3 years, and iirc back then it as ok, but a bit buggy and dropped quality quite often.

Wifi is OK if you set it 'fastest' but if you can, use homeplugs and an Ethernet cable, it really improves performance dramatically.

5GHz wi-fi is fine for "beautiful" as long as you don't have strong signals from neighbours competing with your own. TP link archer is very low latency and recommended by me for Steam Link streaming.

Home plugs can be bloody awful. I get good throughput overall but an intolerable amount of packet loss over home plug in my house. I tried three different manufacturers. Wireshark will give you a good indication of performance if you're inclined to have a nosey.

laptop doesn't have ethernet, they're only sat a few feet from each other, set up and cleaned off the desktop and got it set up so will give it a go, suppose i could try a usb Ethernet adaptor and do a direct connection between the two. but would rather not.

If onboard Wifi isn't good, TP-Link 5GHz Archer chipset dongle as above. Should work fine. 2.4GHz is usually too noisy and is generally slower/unsuitable for game streaming unless you live in the middle of nowhere.

finally got desktop up and running, but no mouse curser shows on when streaming? both laptop and desktop have separate blurtooth mice (both inbuilt rather than usb dongle)

a quick google suggest i might need a usb mouse plugged in, but to which machine and is this an issue, dont want to buy a mouse for it not to work.

Nice one ordered! Why not for £15.99.

Can you play other non steam stuff? E.g. desktop stuff via the Link?
Yep apparently so...

I know there is Kodi support and/or people can watch films/stream etc using vlc.

Also you can apparently get to your desktop.

None of which I have tried however...

I have setup to be able to play Star Wars Battlefront on it which I will be testing for the first time tonight!

To set this up all I have done from reading online is to have Steam / Origin run in admin mode. Disable Origin overlay and quit Origin all together. Then run the game executable via Steam after you have added it as a non Steam game (also I have added vlc in this fashion amongst other things).

Starting to think maybe someone with the skills could write a guide and for it to be stickied. These questions come up every time it's on sale :)

yes you can, but you need to add the game to the steam library on "Add a Non-Steam game to my Library" under GAMES

I ordered from Steam for £24 with delivery, but after I saw that I cancelled my order and ordered from there.

Just minimise big picture (from the power style menu icon) to get to your desktop. Click on steam in the task bar to get it back.

I do this when I want to order pizza. :D
