Subaru-powered Toyota FT-86 gets closer to production...

I thought the Subaru would look slightly different, like the red light clusters on the concept, but its exactly the same as the GT86, trust Toyota to come up with a good piece of design and then **** it all up in the production phase with a conservative approach.

Looks a lot worse than the Toyota version.

I disagree, I think it looks better. Maybe it's just the colour, or maybe it's the subtle touches like the small grille/vent on the wings and the black insert in the front bumper, but I think it looks better than the Toyota version, at least in those pics. Wheels are horrific though. Still disappointing compared to the concept cars :(

So, Subaru BRZ GT300. For those that don't know, GT300 is the lower class in the SuperGT racing series.

the black numberplate bar seems to give the effect of a larger mouth at the front and anything is better than those horrible 'boxer' logos on the toyota.

Will be interesting to see if the interiors vary all that much, and if Subaru are allowed to do an STI version...

Rear of these cars reminds me a bit of both the Z4 (the lights) and the 370z (the diffuser)

I'd like to see some kind of possible TRD/STI version though as it is lacking something. If not i'm sure all the tuner companies will jump on this and provide plenty of routes to go down. :)

doesn't look bad in motion:
(horrible soundtrack)

and sounds pretty good:
he's not really saying anything too exciting, just usual praises you'd give to a car, but to sum up important points: engine feels direct, the intake sound is exciting, cruising 100kph is quiet, car feels very stable at 160kph, very confidence-inducing for drivers to go fast, responds scarily well to driver's request, because of low CoG driver feels the road, altogether it makes the driver feel they can go fast and that he thinks this car is one of the best handling cars in the world

interestingly the STI concept they showed in LA a couple of weeks back is pretty much the released BRZ plus STI bling & gives a good idea what a body kit could do to the stock car:

Where is evidence of the 28K price tag? I really dont think thats the case, the whole point of the car was that its cheap affordable fun.

Apparently Toyota are now saying less than that

Toyota sources have indicated that the all-new Toyota GT 86 coupé will cost less than £28,000 when it reaches the UK next summer.
Earlier this week Autocar learned that the Japanese manufacturer was considering a £28k price tag for its coupé, which was significantly more than the £22,000 cost that had been originally expected.
Now company insiders suggest that a mid-£20k price is more likely for the 143mph rear-drive machine, which will be launched at the Tokyo motor show this week.
