Subnautica

Quite tempted by this. Does the game have a story that you follow, or is it more like No Man's Sky, in which you basically make your own?
There is a story, which kicks off in the intro. You're stranded in the sea with a radio beacon in your pod. Over the course of a hour or so events will play out, which will push you forwards.

The key thing is to build a scanner ASAP, and scan ALL the things. A lot of areas will contain wreckage from your main ship and 'fragments' of key items/vehicles, that you can eventually build providing you have the correct resources to hand. Your life pod has a wall mounted health pack machine that regenerates over time so you'll deffo need that at the start.

I've always maintained that this title IS the best example of an early access title done right...apart from last nights live stream :o

Thanks for the feedback guys, I expected more 'stop being a wuss' comments than there was lol, phobias aren't fun man and it's my biggest one. I like the idea of seeking out the big monsters to get used to them, but it's the imagination that makes it scary. If you play a game like Ark you know what can spawn and where they spawn after a while, especially in the sea and how the AI works but that didn't stop it feeling like something gigantic was about to rise out of the sea bed lol.

A good idea would be to use the 2 hour refund time I guess?

I'm sure that you'd be absolutely fine with the game. It's definitely worth playing. Once you know what all the threats are, you don't really have much to worry about. And you'll only find the bigger things in certain areas, some of them far into the game and very, very deep down.

This sounds much more interesting now. I didn't think that it had a story...

Exactly that.

I reported loads of bugs over the time have had it and pretty much all have been resolved and the game play experience just improved over time.
It is a great game and I am looking forward to doing a run through to the end :)

Maybe yeah, buy it when you have a few hours to devote to it and refund if you don't get on. You could Google it, see what the creatures are and YouTube it. It might ruin some of the self discovery aspect, but if you're really that unsure you could take a look at some videos. It might help also since you're kind of removed from the situation watching somebody else play. If you're just a big nope from the video, you've saved yourself time downloading it lol

I think it is because with each new vehicle you build, the game steps up a gear and changes as you can explore further and deeper than previously that make the game so attractive.

Starting afresh and swimming around gets tiring fast, so I managed to quickly obtain the blueprints for a Seaglider and then later on a Seamoth. So far I've built a little base on the edge of the cliff drop where the entrance to the cave system (purple shroom biome) that drops down into the ruined Degasi base is. Need to build a laser cutter though and I can't remember where to find diamonds!

Lastly on Reddit I noticed an ingame redeem code for the following: Jack's Septic Tank Code: SMHB-VC57-V748-8EGU-1EO (not a clue what it is but the code works and adds item to your blueprints)

That item is a special item added for JackSepticEye, a YouTuber that played the game loads and helped boost its popularity. It's his logo as an ingame item, and if you interact with it, it says his catch phrases.

Watched 5 mins of his channel, I want to carve my ears off with a rusty butter knife.

Must be popular with 8 year olds then.

Finished the game, ending was as expected really.
Apparently my total play time is 1 day, 17 hrs and 34 mins.

Pretty good, now to do it all again as I missed a bunch of new content over the development.

On the fun side, time capsules are actually generated by players!
You need to make your own towards the end, nice touch.

I spent about an hour and a half on this last night, and it feels even better than it was before. Knowing how the game works, and my way around a bit certainly helps a lot. I've managed to get a Seaglide and a Seamoth already. It took me a while to find the mobile vehicle bay fragments, but getting the parts together for it was a lot easier this time around because I had an idea where to look. I'm still getting my bearings a bit though. I need to build a habitat builder tonight so that I can build a small base as a storage area somewhere. In my last game I had a huge base on the Grand Reef, but that place is full of really nasty creatures now, so I think I'll be staying away for now!

Yea, this game is cracking. Still yet to try it out again in VR because I'm having so much fun in 2d.

Atmosphere, progression, building, just the right amount of danger is all brilliant. Definitely a 9/10 game for me.

For me, the game beats most AAA titles released by huge studios. They're a team of 30 and they don't even work in the same office (they're all over the world!), and this is what they've achieved! It puts many studios to shame!

Agreed completely. They deserve so much recognition for their work on the game so don't forget to update your Steam reviews guys!

Now if you'll excuse me, the Sunbeam is coming to rescue me ETA 23mins so GOODBYE LOSERS!
