Subnautica

I've got to grips with the food and water now and I have built the habitat tool as well as a small base with storage cupboards I killed myself in it though... Built something over the hatch entrance and I could not remove it again... Died because I had no oxygen. :D

You can now build from the inside of your base if you have the mats. I managed to build a corridor from inside mine last night :D

Continuing from last nights Cyclops trip to the Grand Reef for resources, I just returned to base with the sub rammed with resources thanks to the Sea Treader Path. Now I have a crisis as I haven't enough lockers to store everything so expansion is in order! Perhaps I should build a scanner room now.

My next step in the storyline is to head to the Lost River I reckon. Think I'll avoid that until tomorrow perhaps!

Bought this game ages ago but for some reason never tried it until today. Well I've been missing out, although I suppose maybe it's a positive that I waited until full release. I played this game for 8 hours straight today, and believe me, no game has done that to me for years. This game is brilliant. So immersive. I just made a start on a crappy base before I burnt myself out for the day. Will look forward to playing it again tomorrow. I have an Oculus Rift and tried it in VR before pancake, but I could only handle a few minutes of it in VR. Doesn't control all that well and the UI is trying to facepalm me, so turned it off quickly. Nearly didn't even boot it up in normal mode but I'm so glad I did because I enjoyed it a lot more. Yeah it looks incredible in VR but it's just too hard to actually play it like that.
Well that's another addict joining the crew!

I love this game so much! It is such an experience even playing it through after playing early access for so long.

I've been trying to find the Cyclops fragments. I've found the bridge and hull pieces, but cannot find any drive fragments anywhere so far :( I've built a scanning room in the Mushroom Forest but I think I need to upgrade it because I can't use it to search for fragments yet.

Also, I've been to the Aurora and sorted the drive core out on that so there's no more radiation. I've got the upgraded fins and also the highest oxygen tank upgrade so it's moving along nicely. I also went for a look around the Jelly Shroom Caves. There's a little more down there now than there was in early access. A few Degasi platforms with stuff on. I can't find the second base though.

I also ended up in an area this morning in the Seamoth where I got the message "Detecting multiple leviathan class signatures in this area. Are you sure what you're doing is worth it." Nope! It sure wasn't. I got out of there as soon as I could but ended up running into a warper. They're so much more aggressive now! It warped me out of my Seamoth and started attacking me. I got away and left that zone sharpish!

Still absolutely loving this game though. It's such an experience!

Got it yesterday, never played it before so all completely new. Can you guys provide a few pointers without spoilers please?

There's not a huge amount of advice to give really. Jump into the water and start gathering stuff for your survival :) If you're playing in Survival mode, you'll want to keep an eye on your food and water situation, and you'll get warnings when your oxygen is low. You replenish it when you swim to the surface.

Your life pod has a fabricator unit on the wall which you use to make everything you need to survive, including food and water that can be made from the fish around you. Once you've got the basics, you'll need a knife to cut things up for certain items, and a data scanner to get new designs etc. You get these new designs by scanning fragments of items on the debris you come across. Don't worry if you don't understand that now. It'll become obvious once you start exploring :)

The ocean contains everything you need to get started and to survive. As you start going deeper (when you have access to special items that'll help) you start to find different resources that you'll need to advance.

Your radio also gives you locations of other lifepods, but you'll need to repair it first :)
It's worth going to these locations as you'll get useful things at each :)

And finally, fear the Reaper!

Have fun exploring. It's a brilliant game!

Thanks buddy, did start using fab yesterday and made flippers, o2 tank etc.

just got my habitat tool and seamoth... anywhere best to build my first base? or doesn't it matter that much?

btw this game looks insane at 21:9 max settings!

It doesn't really matter to be honest. I built my first base in the safe shallows (starting area, right next to the lifepod) and then plan on building little outposts of a single corridor or perhaps a multipurpose room whenever I am in an area that's rich in a resource I might need a lot of.

How long before you find blueprints for guns? I've had nothing but this knife for ages and it sucks in combat. I've given up hunting sharks with it as they either just eat me or swim away.

I've scanned loads of stuff but I only find crap stuff like 'vending machine' or 'desk chair'. What am I doing wrong?

When you make the knife, you get a message up on the screen from your PDA telling you that since some massacre on another planet, gun blueprints haven't been available for fabricators. They're not available anywhere, but you do get the stasis rifle as mentioned above, which you can use to freeze things, and you can also propel them with a propulsion cannon. When you get further into the game, you can unlock torpedoes for the Seamoth, P.R.A.W.N suit, and also the Cyclops. These have different effects, but none of them blow anything up. It's just not that sort of game. You need to use your wits to keep you alive, rather than using a weapon :) That's one of the things that makes the game so good. Everything that wants to attack you has a very real chance of ending you, and that's what makes it so interesting to play. Wait until your PDA warns you with "Detecting multiple leviathan class lifeforms in the region. Are you certain whatever you're doing is worth it?" Yeah, that's fun, especially early on when you don't have any defenses!

As for the scanning, where have you been scanning? You can find Seaglide and Seamoth fragments just off of the Safe Shallows (the starting area), as well as a bunch of other things, so you should have a few things to start building at the start. The further in you go, the better the fragments are, for items that require the more rare resources that you only find further into the more dangerous biomes. At the start, the only places you should really be venturing out to are the Safe Shallows, the Kelp Forest, and the Grassy Plateau's (the biome with the red grass at the bottom). I'd stay away from the other areas until you've built a Seamoth at the very least :)

I wonder what the future plans for the game are. I've seen some of the things they've got on their Trello board, but I'd be interested to know if they'll be introducing anything else, and whether they're planning any DLC. Like perhaps you come back to the planet to investigate more, or maybe you go to another part of the planet to explore that. I just want to know more Subnautica is coming!

Installed this last week and finished it over the weekend, well worth it but I'm not sure there was enough content for retail if I'm honest, also some of the content looks amazing and some of it looks alpha still, especially the texturing and details around the aurora and floating island.

Crafting is quite limited, I've been playing ylands quite a lot lately so this was pretty disappointing in comparison.

Oddly enough one of the last things I found was the laser cutter which I stumbled across, surely you should start with that one? Just a thought.

The Cyclops is awesome though, I must admit.

Still having an absolute blast with no signs of stopping.
Spent most of Saturday in the Lost River working on my thermal base and grabbing ALL the resource nodes using the Prawn. Ended up with an absolute ton of a rare green resource. I then ventured DEEPER in my Prawn as my Cyclops only had a max depth of 900m... and my target was Kyanite deposits. I eventually came away with about 7 ingots worth of the stuff and as a result my Cyclops and Prawn are can recharge their power thermally. Both vehicles have max depth upgrades too.

I'm going to back off the storyline now as I haven't long to go and explore, develop my bases and gather more resources using the above two vehicles. One thing that I did get reminded of was that I wish the Cyclops HUD elements were resizable - they take up a fair amount of the viewscreen I find. Might have to suggest that using the ingame feedback.

How many Time Capsules have you folks discovered? I've found 4 so far but haven't had much loot in them :/

An Artic DLC has been mentioned a lot as potential DLC... and there is an arctic looking biome (viewed from space) in that cinematic trailer so that's something I suppose.

I've found one time capsule. It had a load of Ion Power Cell's inside which is rather nice!
