Subnautica

Hugely annoyed at my recklessness. I lost my Seamoth (SeaCLOWN Mrk1) moments ago.

I took the Clown down to the Grand Reef where the Degasi ruined base is. Got there no problem and parked the clown outside the base. A Warper and Mindcrab wandered over whilst I was ransacking the base. There was a lot of noise outside (were they attacking the Seamoth?)...

I grabbed the PDA's, a certain creature egg and a orange tablet and fled for the exit as I was low on oxygen. Upon getting outside there was no SeaCLOWN :( I swam back in the base to purposely drown and drop some of my stuff before respawing in my life pod at the surface.

I luckily had the egg and the tablet, but I'd lost a lot of upgrades on that vehicle. I quickly built a new one but blew through a ton of resources in doing so.

Quite annoyed. I've only ever visited this spot with a Cyclops in the past fyi and never had issues.

I thought I'd find it a slog starting over again rather than using my existing savegame, but there's so much that's new to the game that I'm really enjoying discovering things again. I made myself a radiation suit and headed over to explore the Aurora, but forgot that you need a laser cutter and fire extinguishers first before going, so I'll need to make some of those before venturing back. I also need to make sure that I've got plenty of food and water! It wasn't a wasted trip though, because I managed to find myself all the moonpool fragments on the way, which is awesome. I also heard (but didn't see) the Reaper! I decided to keep my distance and sped my Seamoth over to the walkway on the Aurora as fast as possible. I'm not hanging around for it!

So once you've completed the story (roughly how long does it take?), is there any replay value?

I would go as far to say that the story isn't actually even the main component of the game. I play it and treat it as a full experience. I actually don't want the story to progress at all for now. I'm happy exploring, building, exploring more, going further into the depths. I like picking up little bits of the story, but I don't want to move it along until I'm ready and I've done everything I want to do, including building myself a large base somewhere. The last time I played, I build a huge base on a rock pillar on the Grand Reef:

I'll be doing something similar, although when I went back before Christmas, I discovered that they've added some new nasties to the Grand Reef and one of them is right outside my base, so I think I may avoid the Grand Reef this time around.

I also built one in the grassy plateau area, but it was only small, and eventually attracted a warper and a reaper leviathan :( I don't have any shots of that but I can get some. It was actually quite a useful little base, built on top of a pillar located off to the edge of the plateau. I was all set to make that my permanent home until I realised how close the warper and reaper were!

I can't wait to build a scanner room tonight. From what I've seen of it being used on Youtube videos, it makes finding resources and fragments pretty easy. Oh, and I also need to upgrade my Seamoth so that it can go below 200m, because there's an entrance right near the safe shallows that leads to the Jellyshroom Caves, and inside there you can find an abandoned Degasi base which usually has a load of good fragments around it, but it's fairly deep down.

I'm so excited to play this game again, and I'll definitely play it even after the story has been completed. It's just such a unique experience, and the base building and submersibles make it an awesome game to play!

I didn't think that they'd just attack it without you being inside it. That's definitely something to watch out for! Perhaps get the perimeter defense system for it next time?

Started it again last night, did they remove the terraforming tool?

I crafted a better Oxygen Tank and that's as far as I got, I remember blasting away the terrain and creating deep scary holes.

I did some reading up last night. It seems Crabsquids do not like bright light and will EMP and attack anything of the sort, which my SeaCLOWN certainly qualified as its lights were left on.

One the way home from work right now so I'm planning a mass exploration mission to grab as much resources as possible and maybe do some story elements whilst I'm at it.

Yeah the terraforming tool was removed about a year ago now. It was breaking terrain and causing the game to suffer massive performance issues because of the removed and added terrain. It also coincided with major issues with resource nodes. You could regenerate the cache files that contained the missing information and this would sort the performance issues, but they ended up removing the terraformer because it wasn't working right.

Cyclops remaining fragments finally found! There I was exploring away gathering resources and I stumbled across the remaining bridge and hull fragments I required to complete the blueprint! Just got to gather the resources to build the bugger later in a few hours when I'm back on.

Having an absolute blast all over again though. I had last played during the Silent Running update but it was just too laggy for me so that never lasted long. So much has changed in such little time that I've been bitten by the gaming bug all over again.

Always struggling with food and water on this, How is it I get more inventory or storage space? I'm full up with junk, Can't build anything not sure how!

Have you got the Habitat Builder tool yet? If so, use it to build a small makeshift base and stock that full of wall lockers. I've made a small base with a single multi room and a moonpool right nexto the edge of the Safe Shallows, on a cliff above the entrance to the 'Shroom Caves. I've used 2 solar powered panels to power all of this and it works well enough.

If you haven't got a Habitat builder yet, build those Floating Storage containers - they don't hold much though, and cost about 2-3 titanium.

Bought this game ages ago but for some reason never tried it until today. Well I've been missing out, although I suppose maybe it's a positive that I waited until full release. I played this game for 8 hours straight today, and believe me, no game has done that to me for years. This game is brilliant. So immersive. I just made a start on a crappy base before I burnt myself out for the day. Will look forward to playing it again tomorrow. I have an Oculus Rift and tried it in VR before pancake, but I could only handle a few minutes of it in VR. Doesn't control all that well and the UI is trying to facepalm me, so turned it off quickly. Nearly didn't even boot it up in normal mode but I'm so glad I did because I enjoyed it a lot more. Yeah it looks incredible in VR but it's just too hard to actually play it like that.

I've got to grips with the food and water now and I have built the habitat tool as well as a small base with storage cupboards I killed myself in it though... Built something over the hatch entrance and I could not remove it again... Died because I had no oxygen. :D
