Subnautica

Another vote for dropping excess raw and processsed materials somewhere easy to find near to the Escape Pod early game.

I’d advise against just dropping it under the pod as the pod does drift around a little and might not be directly above where you dropped stuff later.

I don’t know if they go after scrap metal that players have collected, but there is one of local inhabitants that collects scrap metal.

Ive been playing the Steam experimental version and that’s where I had my Prawn Suit bugs whereas the Epic version was mostly flawless.

In Steam, I’ve got the FPS counter on and it’s all over the place. 34-62 FPS depending what’s on screen. Anybody know which of the graphics settings I can alter to smooth things out? Or is it just bad coding? I’ve read things about the pop in and level of detail which seems to be a flaw in the design of the game.

It's the same for me on a 1070 at 1440p get lots of pop in and weird frame rate drops.

It doesn't look very graphically heavy compared with something like BF1 but it seems to need slot of grunt.

Thanks to the both of you, I find myself a unoccupied coral tube and claim it as my drop off zone then ! :p

Epic just updated their version of the game and it is now 61951. Looking at the version numbers it seems like Epic is pushing out the experimental version and not the last stable on as Steam is doing ??

@Old Man Where on the Sudnautica forum did you see that post ?? Tried to find it but seems I'm blind. :o

OK, I knew that I should have saved down the link, but anyway I have version 61056 on normal so nothing experimental.

Note: I have almost zero issues with frame rates, so just the normal bugs with building in caves etc, so why not look at some clips for best settings? My system is just a Ryzen 5 1500x, Asus gtx 1060 6gb OC, 24gb ram (I use it for work as well as gaming) and run the game on my SSD.

After completing the Freedom mode, I went straight back for a second playthrough on Survival. Not liking this mode as much. At first it was a bit of fun catching fish with the grav trap and whathaveyou but now it's become a pain in the arse when you just want to get on with the game. Having to fill up precious inventory slots with food and water and potentially running out when you're way underground is not really fun so I won't be choosing this mode again.

And on my wishlist - a single, multipurpose room in the Cyclops so you could power it with a nuclear reactor. :p

You can have a farm at some of your bases, including on the Cyclops if you're having issues as it's more of having too much than too little.

Yeah, I was going to look at doing that. Problem now is that the Cyclops docking bay doors are jammed shut and won't open! I've tried saving/reloading, dismantling the lockers I built in the lower deck, moving the sub to higher evelation, switching on the fire suppression system. I don't know if it's a bug in the experimental version so I'm going back to Steam stable. What a palaver. The amount of bugs in this game is unbelievable but it's actually a miracle that it mostly works when you look at all the things that it has to keep track of.

EDIT: And I can't load my save game into an older version of the game (which is sort of expected really) but it's still a bummer. Going to have to leave my prawn suit stranded as it can't dock.

Can you open the internal hatch and board the prawn suit?

Or is the prawn suit outside the Cyclops?

I remember finding that the bays doors occaissionly get very fussy about opening unless you approach them dead centre in the prawn suit.

In an early version there was a bug that meant sometimes yiou coucldnt see Cyclops damage to repair outside. Never encountered it myself.

Only bug i came across was getting stuck in the wall inside the Big Ship which pushed me outside the playable area. Had to use console teleport commands to move myself around back into a corridor.

I said after my last and 3rd play of this I wouldn't play again but reading this thread makes me want to go back and start fresh again...that'll put me at 300+ hours.

I still haven't actually completed it as I play it purely as sandbox and haven't properly followed the story since getting it on pre alpha release or whatever it was.

It's the new Deus Ex...as soon as it's mentioned, someone will re-install it.

Try running the "Verify integrity of game files", next select the "experimental" and see what happens and if this does not work, try looking on the net for a fix and follow them all.

Try and avoid the experimental build if you can, unless you're willing to put up with actual proper bugs - the build also has the ability to **** up your saves and going back to stable (in my past experience) doesn't help.

I had a heap of prawn to cyclops docking issues back when I used to run on experimental.

Downloading now, can't complain for a free copy. Never really played a survival game before but I have an open mind.
Nope, that you can not. I did same as you, wasn't sure if I would like it being survival game but I did, so actually went and bought it at the steam sale now, I think the dev's deserve my money for the game. :)

On another matter. Will there be a large deposit somewhere where you can get lead and silver mostly ?? I just find a few here and there and it's driving me up the wall ! :p

Yup there is a place where both of those are available. There are two or three areas where you can get nearly every ore in the game together.
