At what point does that become moot? Lets say his release clause is £50m. Arsenal come in and offer that. Chelsea come in and say we will pay £60m and pay him higher wages. He doesn't have to go to Arsenal if he wants to go to Chelsea. The club aren't going to be able to extract way more from Chelsea.
Well his release clause is 60 odd million for a start and that's deemed a 'bargin' apparently. Palace csn slap whatever valuation they want on him given he's young and ticks the homegrown criteria especially given Chelsea have thrown 100 million on other young players, hell your starting point is the fee they paid for mudryk.

The amount was just an example. And they can't slap whatever valuation on him if Chelsea won't pay it and they have a couple of other clubs that will be able to pay £60m for him if no one else will pay more... They can tell Chelsea the price is £100m all they like but if they won't pay it then they could lose him for £60m so it makes zero sense to try that.

You know how negotiations work right? Scrap that as a utd fan you've no idea. Chelsea may aswell just throw an extra fiver over his release clause as apparently palace will have no option but to accept it..

That's not what fez is saying. It makes no sense in Palace pricing Chelsea out of a move if they can potentially get £5-10m more from them than selling to Liverpool, for example.

if he only 'wants to go to Chelsea' then why would Chelsea offer anything above his release clause? He's got 3 years left on his contract, if Chelsea (or a non CL club) want him then they pay whatever palace deem his value to be - as I've said, given what other similar players have gone for that's closer to 100mill (imo) Anyway, all speculation currently, we'll see what happens, if he could get over his injuries he could be a great player.

Because it's part of a negotiation and both Palace will try to get as much as they can and Chelsea will not want to pay more than they have to. Getting Chelsea to pay a small premium over and above the release clause to get the deal done is far more realistic than them paying 75% more when the very real risk to Palace would be Olise having his head turned by a CL club and them ending up getting less.

Everton have to sell and by the end of the month too. Providing Utd can get a commitment from the player and or nobody else comes in for him (or another Everton player) then Everton will be forced to do a deal.

We ain’t signing Oilise mate
Don’t care still going to watch the welcome to Newcastle YouTube videos :D

Seen we have a medical booked for James Trafford. 15m with 5mil addons to come in and complete with Pope.

Our GK position has cost us dearly over the last two season when Pope has been out.

He had a bit of a rough season but seems to have bags of potential.

If he does compete with Pope you will just have the same issue next season. Very few clubs have elite back up keepers because you can't keep 2 keepers happy and its not a position that you usually rotate much outside of injuries. Even then, would you bring Pope back in when fit? If you don't Pope will likely want to leave.

According to ian Doyle, CB is a priority signing (sure thats changed since yesterday when the Yoro stuff broke). Wonder if there's anything in the VVD to saudi rumours

Think that’s what makes Trafford ideal. Pope will be number one and Trafford will be his long term replacement but better than what we currently have/had.

Although I think that’s now both Popes shoulders that have had issues. So who’s knows.

With the eggheads running things I'd imagine any major bid from Saudi for VVD and in particular Salah will be seriously considered. Gut feeling is VVD wouldn't go there, not this summer anyway as he's still performing at the highest level and probably sees himself playing a few more years yet.

Us being in for a CB is (or should be) a given regardless though. I think most people (including the club) wanted another CB last summer but with Matip leaving, Ibou still picking up semi regular niggles, Gomez never playing CB anymore and VVD a year older, there's a clear need for another CB this summer even accounting for Quansah's emergence.

Another CB is probably the only certainty for me right now with other business depending on who might leave, what system the manager picks and where Trent plays. If Slot wants to stick with his 4-2-3-1 then there's a decision to be made in CM as not many of our CM options are suited to playing in a 2 - you could look to move Trent there permanently, in which case you need another RB or you're going to have to bring somebody in. You'd probably need to look at a right sided midfielder/forward too as I can't see Salah playing wide in a 4-2-3-1, even if we assume he's staying.
