Summer Transfer Thread 24/25

If everyone else around you is earning £200k and you've been earning it for years I'd imagine things would be very different.

Hes been easily one of the best paid players at United for a while. If you can't motivate yourself to put in the effort when you are getting £200k/week then you don't deserve to be a professional footballer. The top players don't drop their performances massively when its contract renewal time. They justify raises by being indispensable due to their quality, not because they are the best of a bad bunch.

Everton have agreed a deal in principle which could see Jake O’Brien move from Lyon. Could this be the trigger which sees Branthwaite move to United?
United don't have the money for Branthwaite. I'm pretty sure they have moved on. De Ligt looks more likely.

According to James Pearce Liverpool rejected a £14 million bid for Endo
I like him and many 'fans' do him a major disservice. When he was at the Asian games we missed him terribly last season. He's a great CDM and Bajcetic and even Curtis can learn a lot from him. I hope he stays. His stats in 22/23 in the Bundesliga were among the best in the league. He always gives 100% as well.

Sounds like we may end up with two Bayern defenders.

So Maguire/AWB/Lindelof to follow Varane out of the club to a) free up wages and b) free up squad spaces for registration? Martinez/Yoro/De Ligt as our primary DCs with Evans as backup? Or do we keep Lindelof to be joint backup with Evans? Guessing Lindelof at least, and perhaps Evans too, leave in 2025 when we get a 4th DC (Branthwaite?) and see if any of the U21s can make the step up to be 5th choice DC?

Seems pretty unlikely that Maguire is leaving, don't think there have been any rumours
Might be the Ineos way? Keep things quiet, for player's sake and to be respectful to him. I can't see Yoro joining Utd with only Varane leaving. We'd have Yoro/Martinez/Lindelof/Maguire/Evans. Add in potentially De Ligt or Branthwaite (perhaps even both!) then at least one of Lindelof/Maguire have to leave, even if just for the wages. Doubt it'll be Evans leaving as he's just signed a one year extension so keep him for the season. He'll be on lowest wages of the DC group surely?

There is zero chance we're signing Branthwaite and De Ligt. The former is almost certainly a dead deal unless Everton lower their price. I think we'll sell Lindelof and AWB because both only have 1 year left on their deals.

Agreed. I was more keen for us to get De Ligt. Everton's asking price for Branthwaite seemed to be almost fantasy. Didn't they justify their asking price partly on the price we paid for Maguire, which most people in football/PL accept was utterly over the top. I think the most likely situation is that AWB leaves for Mazraoui and Lindelof leaves for De Ligt.

Mazraoui seems to be more likely to happen than De Ligt right now. I am a bit bemused as to what's happening. West Ham wanted him as well but he didn't want to sign, presumably because of the Utd interest, so he refuses but now Utd somehow know what West Ham and Bayern had agreed so stepped in with similar offer. Bayern kind of have to accept it. Then West Ham, having failed to get Mazraoui, now seem to be going to AWB, which ironically helps us sign the player West Ham wanted before he said no?!

It is still possible we sign Branthwaite in a couple of years on a free? I read somewhere that he was annoyed Everton had cost him a move to Utd and might want to leave when his contract expires.

I am concerned about De Ligt's injury record, we're already having issues in preseason, we can't have another season of injury excuses...

Branthwaite looks good on the injury front (unless I've missed something).

Agree. Still would like to see a few more exited. Eriksen, Hannibal, Pellistri should all be let go. No sense keeping them if they aren't going to play. Collyer looks good enough to get tested a bit this season a bit like Garner did before we decide if he will make it. He looks better than McSauce at tackling and covering space. Yoro was never going to play 40 matches this season - he's 18 and won't have fully developed physically for a couple of years. He needs careful management.

Calafiori finally announced and it sounds like up to £34mil for ESR. Sad end, loved him as a player but got injured at the wrong time and never seemed to get up to speed with the team.

Hopefully that can go towards Merino and another winger/forward. Could be a great window if we can get decent fees for Nelson and Nketiah.

Shame to see ESR go, he was awesome a few seasons ago and never really got a chance to get going after his injury. This new bloke will be playing LB I reckon so we're going to have a really solid back 4.

Yeah, amazing potential, but highly injury prone...such a shame :(

At least the pieces are finally moving...be interesting to see if we get what we need.
What do you think we need? I'd like to get a solid CM to cover for Partey for 3/4 of the season while he's injured. Bin off Eddie and get a proper striker in.
