Summer Transfer Thread 24/25

Such a strange one. I get more and more confused with these transfers and the market in general.

Chelsea have to sell and don’t want to sell to a rival
Atletico don’t have to buy

Why are they paying so much money for him? He’s got a……yeh i’m lost as well.

Listen to the "Rest is Football" podcast with Gary Lineker. He had some guy on there explaining the transfer dealings. basically all these clubs up a **** creek (Forest, Chelsea, Everton, Villa, Newcastle etc) are all basically working together selling and buying players at inflated fees to loop hole PSR regs to keep themselves in the black because they are all home grown players it is instant cash.

£33mil for an england international regardless of contract is decent business tbh

He will do great at athletico. He dragged Chelsea forward end of last season he’s having the last laugh leaving a club in a mess and going to the sun to woek under simeone

You wouldn’t have thought they’d be in the club of oh he’s English we must over pay due to the English tax.

AFAIK Atletico aren’t exactly flush with cash so spending that amount on a player with a year left still seems bizarre.

I do get that(regarding those deals for PSR), Chelsea have actively been trying to get rid of him for the past 3 windows as well. Atletico aren’t involved in that maybe there is more to it and they’ll be loaning them players or something. There has to be more to this.

I’m also baffled as to how Chelsea are so elite at selling but the polar opposite with spending.

Chelsea are elite at selling because they basically own the whole youth academy down south. Man City own the youth academy for the rest of the world.

That doesn’t really explain how they’re able to get such figures for unproven talent as well as run of the mill players.

The youth players they’ve sold this summer to Villa and Newcastle are due to the PSR loop hole that the clubs are using so that easily explains that. They do have a good youth set up though however it doesn’t explain how they’ve managed to accumulate 100s of millions from Havertz, Mount, Kovacic, Abraham (no PSR at that stage), Zouma etc

Sad to see Ben Doak heading out on loan and that we're even willing to consider permanent moves. Hoped that he would get opportunities this season in the team. I feel like a few of the talented young players will head out the door over the coming 12 months, the likes of Doak, Clark, Morton and most annoyingly Danns. Some will return but I suspect most will be moved on. Talking of young players someone mentioned Calvin Ramsey to me the other day, I totally forgot we had even bought him a few years ago, 21 now, dont think I've ever even seen him in a Liverpool kit :)

Doak hasn't shown anything to suggest he's able to make the step up imo, a loan will do him the world of good - similar to Danns in that youngsters need minutes more than anything (although Danns looks like a real prospect).

PSG are making stupid demands, glad we're willing to walk away.
Should have walked away 4 weeks ago when they were demanding the same money.

We've left us vulnerable for the opening games of the season now. Our midfield is weaker compared to last with no Amrabat.
Its really not looking good.. we need De Ligt and a midfielder signed this week.

Desperately need more defenders. Been watching the pre-seasons and it is still a clown show at the back, absolutely hopeless defending with Maguire, Evans, AWB, LIndelof.

Looking good going forward, especially Amad, but this season will be just as terribad as the last if we don't clear out the defence. Anything would be an improvement, these two lads from Bayern would be a start.
De Ligt seems nailed on, just a matter of when.

We do need to get rid of Maguire, AWB, Lindelof asap.
Doesn't seem we're getting Ugarte now which is a shame. I would also offload Mctominay, Antony and Sancho, the latter two very unlikely due to their ridiculous wages.

Personally I think both will be sold, different times and all that but seems that the days of a Robbie Fowler busting into the first team up front and playing regularly even though he's only 18 are gone. I'd love to see the statistics on how many players who go on loan are then kept by the owning team and how many are then sold, does feel like usually going on loan is just a prelude to being sold rather than getting playtime because the team wants to keep them

Doak is in a difficult position as he's a wide right winger. No one is taking Salah's place there, at least at the moment. He's still young though so if sold I'd expect a buyback clause and likely a resell cut as well. A Loan would do him well I think.
