**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Cant understand why the FA would do that, especially seeing as the FA were one of the 155 who voted in favour of the FIFA rule in the conference in Australia. (only 5 voted against)

Who knows? Maybe it was the Premier League rather than the FA. IINM Gooner posted a link about it, maybe he'll be kind enough to post it again (I can't find it).

Toure's comments today weren't bad, but certainly what I feel the squad is feeling, incapable of winning anything and going nowhere. He, like others, feel's the team is worsening and changing for the worse.

He's hardly likely to say Arsenal are going to win everything when he's just left...

I fail to see how the team is worsening, when we have lost a player nearly everyone wanted rid of for all of last season, and a CB, who has been on the decline for the last season, who has been replaced. Also Arseshaving will have a pre season and be fully match fit, Eduardo is back and Rosicky is too.

You really do not have a clue do you? Have you ever thought that a value for a player is based on his worth to the team he is leaving and not just purely based on image rights? Alonso has been immense for Liverpool over the last few seasons, and the difference when he doesn't play is clear for all to see.

I really wish I could swear at you.

Its not even that, they are unhappy about paying £30 million because they cannot understand how a player liverpool were trying to literally give away last season, is suddenly worth £30 million pounds a year later.

Firstly because he rediscovered his best form last season and Rafa now wants to keep him and secondly because Real are loaded and have been spunking money left, right and centre.

Edit: dm, do you mind linking me to an article that suggests Rafa wants rid of him? If not then please be quiet.

Hmm...could be that it was the Premier League rather than the FA. Wouldnt be surprised though if we went with the ruling, especially as we are desperate to hold a world cup. Probably not best to disagree with FIFA if you want to hold a world cup :)

Sebastien Bassong is all set to leave Newcastle after agreeing to join Tottenham once the transfer embargo is lifted.

Harry Redknapp is already facing a defensive crisis with Michael Dawson, Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate all set to be unavailable for the start of the new season.

Redknapp will dip into the transfer market again to sign Bassong, with Spurs reportedly ready to pay £8million for the 23-year-old.

North London rivals Arsenal had been interested in Bassong but were believed to have be told they would need to pay £15million at the start of the summer.

However, following the north-east club's failure to find a buyer the Toon have been forced to lower their price tag, while Bassong is believed to be ready to accept Spurs'£50,000-per-week package.

Yes he is leaving for the glory of winning trophies. He said that he is leaving for a team that could maybe break into the top 6 or 4? Please explain which trophies ManC are going to have a better chance of winning than Arsenal?

So he is leaving a team in order to do worse?!? Be honest with yourself he is leaving for the money and you are again for some bizzare reason trying to protect your "football friend" from looking bad.

New subject: From Wenger on SSN

"In England people think that all the problems can be sorted out by buying players.

"I believe the biggest target is to work hard in training, improve what we can improve and have confidence in the players that we have."

Now who thinks we are likely to get ANYONE in now? lol

I am just hoping we get a good price for Fab next year :D

van der Vaart doesn't play even a remotely similar role to Xabi. Plus last year he showed that he barely has the physique to stand up to the Spanish league, let alone the Premiership!

Noo, Xabi :(

I'd accept Rafa bringing in Sneijder and Mata as justification for losing him...

You been playing too much FM? You should watch some German football mate, played in the centre of the park when he was in Germany. Stroking the ball around the pitch for fun! Just like Alonso does..granted he needs some work on his stamina but that can be solved with a bit of dedication. May i ask how many games you saw him play in last year with RM?

He's a dirty **** for a start, worse than Barton.

And, no, he hasn't really proven himself.

Dirty yes...so was Keane tho, it doesnt mean anything. You say he hasnt proven anything, well he was the youngest captain wasnt he? Not sure on that one. Was the driving force in the Middlesborough team for years. Southgate sold him and look where they end up? Relegated, he was just the type of player they were missing last season...and a striker of course. Wigan bought him and look how they did, had a superb season under Bruce. He's 21, hungry for success and more importantly has talent. Unfortunatley a few people on this forum wouldnt know a decent player if it hit them on head!
