**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

So many better clubs out there, are Spurs even in Europe this season?
Well he signed for your shower so he can't be too well clued up can he..?

Anyway I thought we'd have at least 2-5 seasons without bitter geordies and their anti-spuds talk.... Time you realized we're really not a threat to you lot anymore. Go and take it out on some Sc unthorpe and Doncaster fans ;):p:D

Ok put your hand up, who didn't see this announcement coming from Arsene :D

Not surprised at all with that statement...thats Wenger for you...never gives much away..he says that hes not looking to strengthen the side but im pretty sure he realises he needs to as quite a few of players have been injured at some point...Rosicky being the biggest injury...think ive only ever seen him play 1 or 2 games:p....ill be mightily narked off if we get a few players injured then we have no one to back them up and if we do...it will be the likes of non experienced players.

Still dont expect us to win anything this yr...4th will be a struggle i imagine but i hope im proved wrong.

Bent on Twitter:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/article6734156.ece

Darren Bent was at the centre of an internet controversy last night after detrimental comments about Daniel Levy, the Tottenham Hotspur chairman, were posted on a social networking site. The Spurs and England centre forward, is understood to be frustrated about the slow pace of his transfer from the North London side to Sunderland as the clubs haggle over a fee and the size of installment payments.

After the striker was pulled out of Tottenham's tour to China on Monday, details appeared on a Twitter account in his name regarding his proposed move. The same account - credited to db10thetruth - which features photographs of Bent DJing and of recent Spurs friendly matches, yesterday purported to illustrate the extent of the 25-year-old's increasing anger at the transfer negotiations.

“Seriously getting ***** off now,” was the message posted at lunchtime, followed by “Why can't anything be simple. It's so frustrating hanging round doing jack ***.”

After stating that “Sunderland are not the problem in the slightest” there then followed more stringent criticism of Levy. “Do I wanna go Hull City NO. Do I wanna go stoke NO do I wanna go sunderland YES so stop ****** around levy .”

The Times contacted Sunderland, Tottenham and Bent's representative last night. While all of them confirmed that Bent is a regular tweeter, none had established whether the player was responsible for the posts.

Watch your swearing

Gilly

Probably see a signing or two in the next week from Fulham, as our next competitive game isn't till Thursday, so hopefully get in a striker and a defender at least!

Cattermole is talented, I'd take him at Arsenal. £30m is a good price for Alonso, given that he wants to leave I'd take the money.

As for Vieira, I'm a huge fan but I doubt Wenger would go for it, too much of a backward move for him given his age. I also haven't seen much of him lately so it's possible he may have gone off the boil.

Even if he has no drive anymore, if his ball-winning is still up to scratch I'd definitely take him, that was always his greatest asset and the reason why I was distraught at his sale 4 years ago. 4 years ago if you'd said to me that Vieira, Henry and Toure would be sold for well under £50m combined I'd have laughed :(

Difficult to say who I'd have partnering Fabregas in the middle this season now that Toure's gone, Wilshere is the most talented option but I'm not sure that would work, at least not yet.

Sit being the operative word, the guy was shot a couple of seasons ago ....it was painful to watch him play in Italy, it's a slower game there and he still looks off the pace. Apart from the dressing room i don't see what value he can bring us tbh.

Somethings wrong, we agree, he is painful to watch, in a league I regard as no where near as hard as the premier league.

The thing of it is though, since Fabregas has been back from injury, and all preseason Wenger seems to be pushing this Fabregas pushed further forward(and completely out of the game against good opposition last season), with two DM's behind him.

Lets say we get Vieira, whats the point, even if he's great having a useless 2nd DM next to him, will simply mean everyone runs at the weak side of the field.

We desparately need a DM and to drop to a 4-4-2, because Fabregas for years much of his best work is getting the ball in a very tight situation deep in our own half, turning out of danger and getting it up the field quickly. Against a few teams his more advanced/high position, we kept losing the ball/slowing our counters before the ball even got to Fabregas. It just didn't work, sure its working in preseason, but we aren't playing anyone decent, thats how that goes.

I was worried about the top 4 last year, had ASton Villa not self imploded we would be out already, i'm worried about Europe at all this year though, if we don't bring in what we need that is.

EDIT:- Has anyone seen anything from Phil Brown lately, was he proud to have been in for Zamora aswell since he's turned them down also? Find it hilarious that even two goal Zamora won't go to Hull(for what you guess was a improved wage), whose the next step down in Prem Strikers Hull can turn too now? Looking at most minutes and lowest goals, Diouf(surprisingly bad, one goal over 2k minutes, i hate the guy but he usually scores quite a few?), Kanu, and, is Hull Shevchenko's last chance to redeem himself?

Although no deal has yet been agreed, it is understood that Wenger is open-minded about the idea of offering Vieira a heavily performance-related one-year contract as he attempts to bring added experience to the Arsenal squad.
Vieira is also wanted by Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp, who previously had been encouraged by conversations he had with the France midfielder's agent. Redknapp also claimed that Vieira was prepared to cross the north London divide and play for Tottenham, although it is now understood that he would be reluctant to risk his revered status with the Arsenal supporters.
Vieira, 33, was a peripheral figure under Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan last season, although he has enjoyed an encouraging pre-season and could feasibly remain in Serie A next season.
He has one year left on his £85,000-per-week deal with the Italian champions, who would want only a relatively small fee. Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring developments, but have not tabled offers.
The possibility of Vieira returning to Arsenal was first raised on Wednesday by his former team-mate, Ian Wright, on his TalkSport radio show. "I'm hearing Vieira, pay-as-you-play, back at Arsenal. That's what I'm hearing, and that's what I'm hoping," Wright said.
The idea was initially met with caution. Wenger has never previously gone back for a player and would be extremely sensitive about the impact Vieira's arrival might have on his emerging midfielders, particularly Alex Song, Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas, Denilson and Abou Diaby.
Wenger, though, also ruefully noted at the end of last season that he already had enough players who lacked experience. In Vieira, he would not just be getting a powerful presence on the field but, potentially of equal importance, a personality who could help mature and inspire others in the dressing room.
Arsenal did little on Thursday to silence the speculation, greeting all queries relating to Vieira without making any comment. Sources in Italy, though, spoke positively about the idea, and the issue will be top of the agenda when Wenger addresses the media this afternoon.
On Wednesday night, immediately after the 1-0 win over Hannover, Wenger had said that his squad was "good enough" to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
He also stressed that he was not close to making any signings and even hinted that it was not certain he would spend further this summer. However, he did admit that there was money available and said they were looking for the "right players".
On Thursday he admitted that he was considering several options. "We don't make money to leave it in the banks," he said. "We are looking at some possibilities to strengthen the squad and we will only do it for the players that are worth spending the money on."
Vieira was rated fifth by Arsenal supporters on their all-time list of greatest players and was with Wenger for his three Premier League titles and four FA Cup wins. Indeed, since he left for Juventus in 2005 for £13.75 million after scoring a penalty in the FA Cup final against Manchester United, Arsenal have yet to win another trophy.
Redknapp yesterday reacted with surprise to the news that Wenger could hijack his deal. "Is that true? That is surprising," he said. "That's the first I have heard about it. He'll be a good player for whichever team he signs for."
Asked if he would be disappointed if Vieira went to Arsenal, Redknapp said: "He belonged to Arsenal, he was a fantastic player. I am sure if the opportunity came to go back to the club, then he'd probably take it. But I don't know. It could be a rumour."
Redknapp confirmed his ongoing interest in Real Madrid forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who has also been linked in the Spanish press with Arsenal.
So far this summer Wenger has sold Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure to Manchester City for a combined £39 million and spent £10 million on the Belgium centre-back Thomas Vermaelen.
Having explained Manchester United's superiority in the Premier League with reference to their defensive record, Wenger has been particularly keen to reinforce that area of his squad.
Other potential targets are Norway centre-back Brede Hangeland, Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh and St Etienne holding midfielder Blaise Matuidi. At the age of 22, Matuidi would certainly be a more characteristic Wenger signing than the 2009 Vieira model.

In my opinion we don't need any more young, relatively inexperienced players such as Chamakh or Matuidi. Viera, while probably past his best is still a good choice in my opinion. He's as physical as some of the best and he's still a good holder of the ball. As for Klaas Jan Huntelaar, we don't need him. We have plenty of striking options and I'd like to see the money from Ade and Toure to be spent on shoring up our defense.
