**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

He always made it clear he wanted to return to spain at some point, so cant really argue with it. Farewell Xabi, thanks for the memories!

At least now that's over, we'll see some movement in the market for us.

EDIT: Press Association are apparently reporting it at £30m + Add-ons (Presumeably the rumoured £5m), so I guess Rafa got what he wanted.

It looks like Rafa got what he wanted. By keeping it confidential it looks like Madrid don't want anyone to know that they caved in.

Ah well, it was a matter of time really but its still hard to see :( See ya Xabi and good luck, you'll go down as one of the most classy, and talented players in our history.

****, Alonso fee agreed. :(

Thank god for that...glad its all over with frankly. Right...now that its out of the way, lets get down to sorting out what to do with the money asap. The start of the season is almost upon us and I would preferably want new faces sorted and in place before it begins.

I cant believe we are letting Senderos go.

We start the summer so well with a decent buy in the position we need STRENGTHENING and then we go and sell Toure. Ok not too bad as we have Senderos coming back from loan so we are still better off. Now we sell him too?

I hope we arent going to rely on Silvestra next season...a year older... a year slower and a year of not winning anything again as our squad goes down again in size.

Oh well...as Baldrick says hopefully Wenger has a cunning plan

He's gonna sign a turnip?

Wouldn't put it past him. :p

Not particularly happy about losing Xabi but at the end of the day he wanted to go and I'm happy that stood our ground and got good value for him.

Just hope we don't go and **** all that money up the wall now.

Lets hope we don't waste the money on Poulsen and Aquilani.

Providing it doesn't stop us for signing a decent forward, I'd want us to sign 2 CM's and Aquilani and Poulsen doesn't sound too bad.

Aquilani's more than capable of replacing Alonso (albeit he's a slightly different style of player), the only worry is his ankle injury and I'd much rather have somebody like Poulsen filling in if either he or Masch got injured than Lucas.

They're talking about £15m for Aquilani and I can't see Poulsen costing a great deal more than £4-5m so with the remaining £10m + another ~£8m (plus any further sales of the likes of Dossena and Voronin) that we should already have, we can still afford to sign a decent forward and defensive cover.

Have you been watching Gallas for the past 2 seasons? Good at Chelsea, been rubbish at Arsenal
You clearly haven't been watching him in the last six months. Since he lost the captaincy he's been superb, and this is from someone who doesn't particularly like him. Probably our best defensive player last season.

Sad to see him go but am glad all this is over now. Now we must use this money wisely and not waste it

I fear with Rafa you won't get your wish, especially if your dabbles in the market recently are anything to go by :D

I wouldn't put it past him to buy Robbie Keane with the alonso money ;)

I suppose atleast your keeping Mascherano now.

Problem with Swiss Tony is you can't risk playing offside with him in the team, when a forward runs past him he's flat-footed and all he can do is bring them down and take the yellow card. Cygan had no pace either, but his positioning was exceptional. Djourou while not as experienced is better on the ball, I do worry about his positioning at times though, he can get away with it when Toure is alongside him due to his lungs, but I can't see an aging Gallas being able to run 30 yards across the pitch to cover him all that often.

As for Kalou, I don't want him, and certainly not at £8m. He's gone on record as saying he wants to play for Wenger, and our style probably suits his game, but the fact is that £8m is too much to spend on a player who should be below RvP, Eduardo, Arshavin, Rosicky, Nasri and Walcott in the pecking order. Around the £2-3m mark maybe, but not at that price. Even then it would arguably hamper the development of Bendtner and Vela.

The Lescott transfer seems just a matter of time. I guess Everton are waiting to finalise the Senderos deal.

Bah football is becoming a joke!

Gone are the days of playing for your club badge, it seems that footballers are only interested in who will pay the most money:(

Aquilani has spent more time injured in his career then playing and Poulson is nothing more then average. No thanks.

Defour or Hamsik would be better options.
