**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Wenger admitting he's in for Hangeland and confirming that he's interested in bringing back Vieira (joke that one IMO, I thought Wenger was more astute than that)

He did nothing of the sort.

They asked about Hangeland, he said he hasn't spoken to him, hasn't spoken to Fulham and have not made our choice on him or anybody else. That's hardly a sign of being in for him.

He said nothing has happened with Vieira, hardly a sign of being interested.

However when asked about the much-rumoured re-signing of his former captain, Wenger replied: "Not at the moment, no.”

I tend to believe he is saying little so he doesn't speak ill of an Arsenal Legend.

The Gunners boss has conceded he is tracking Hangeland, but insists no bid has been lodged to Fulham.

"We had a look at him, but we have not contacted Fulham, have not contacted Hangeland and have not made our choice on him or anybody else," noted Wenger.

Seems pretty conclusive that he's interested in him to be honest

"Not at the moment, no," said Wenger, when asked if they were close to completing a deal from Vieira.

Again if he was not interested whatsoever he'd have surely dismissed it altogether

You said he was in for Hangeland. He hasn't spokent to him or Fulham and hasn't decided who he wants to sign. Hardly a sign of being 'in' for a player. He might well sign, but we won't sign anyone tell at least the 26th August.

Wenger points to new players - but not Vieira

Same interview totally different take.

So being interested in a player is separate to being in for him? Talk about splitting hairs

Yeah that take on it didn't include the question that he was asked

Why thank god? He seems a very good prospect.

Whats with Fulham and Americans anyway? You seem to have an obsession with them

Because we would have missed out.

And not really, just got scouts over there really, snap up the better ones (when we can).

Bassong to Spurs done and dusted. :)

We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Newcastle United for the transfer of Sebastien Bassong to the Club, following the player successfully completing a medical examination and agreeing personal terms.

The defender moved to St James' Park in July 2008 from Metz where he made 79 appearances in three seasons.

The 23-year-old played 34 times for Newcastle last season in his debut campaign in the Premier League.

Strange timing by Spurs!

End of last season Bassong was sent off in Newcastle's second to last game and given a 2 match suspension. He missed their final game of the season so he's got one left to serve... if Spurs left the signing until 12pm tomorrow then he'd still be registered as a toon player and serve that final game ban for their first game of the season against Wet Bum on Saturday. If he's signed for Spurs tonight then he'll be unavailable against Liverpool when we really need him??

Indeed.

Good thing Ledley should be fit for it.

Good player Bassong but getting 16x what we paid for him (and maybe even more) is good business.

Just hope we hold on to our best defender (Enrique) now.

He'd benefit from having a pacey partner like Bassong, which Corluka is anything but.

What happened to Taylor? Only 12 months ago most toon fans were saying he was one of the best CB's in the country.

Don't know anyone who said that really. :p The press think so but they also think Butt is good.

He's liked by Newcastle fans and will be on of the better players in the Championship but I can't see him being first choice for England in the future.

Bassong and Enrique will both play for their countries but I still don't know why Bassong chose to play for Cameroon.
