**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Johnson was paid for with the money from Keane. We've since sold Alonso (£30m + 4m) and Arbeloa, Leto etc (~£8m) and signed Aquilani (£16-20m). We should still have ~£20m left, anything extra is a bonus.

+ we have the 50p that the board gave him to buy some sweets, as it stands he never bought the sweers ;)

Close, Cattermole and Distin were the two he wants to bolster the squad.

Looks like it will be a really really late bid for a German by all accounts....

Thing is though we may never even hear of the bid. If the player isn't deemed for sale and they don't want to entertain bids then it all disappears.

Wow, can't think of anyone; the only one who sprung to mind was Podolski, but he's just gone to Koln hasn't he?

Metzelder, Mertesacker or Lahm would be my guess, although Lahm would be a surprise with our sudden abundance of full backs! Schweinsteiger at an outside chance, although I'd consider that too much to hope (and if we're willing to shell out for him, why not go the whole hog and get Silva?)

Surely there was no money from keane. When you sold him back you all said it was just cancelling the money that was owed on him in the first place?

I doubt there was much hard cash transferred, more the cancelling of debt.

Fans get too caught up in the figures thinking they have it to spend. The money always dissapears and there's never as much as fans think.

You constantly hear Manu fans say well we have 80 for ronaldo and the usual 25 so we have 105 million to spend.

That money will never get spent on players. A year from now when Fergie is given 30-40 for a new players the fans will be asking where the ronaldo money went.

Reportedly they wrote off the ~£12m we owed them and they paid us another ~£4m this summer (+ potentially another £3-4m in add-ons). But the point is we had already committed ourselves to paying that ~£12m so I see no reason why last summer we were able to spend that £12m but now we can't.

Regardless of that; we signed Johnson before anybody was sold so clearly we had some money, whether that be the Keane money or not, available. Whether Rafa's given and chooses to spend all of the Alonso money is anothre matter though. I personally think he'll be given it.

edit: and also; there was very little cash changing hands in the Johnson deal too. They still owed us ~£7m from the Crouch deal and we're reported to have only paid another ~£4m up front with the rest in installments.

They would have a job, his club have accepted an offer and he is currently on trial with United.

Also, Chelsea would not blow £45 million on a player and lend him back, NOBODY would.

Rob Beasley was on the Sunday Supplement this morning talking about it. He claimed that somebody from Chelsea phone him this morning saying that Milan didn't want the story leaked and that he's jeopardized the deal

The guy's such a ****.

LOL you know it's bad when reports say "The club is preparing to bid..."

What do they do email all the tabloids and ask them for their opinion before making a bid? :D

I just can't see why Young would move, it seems like a sideways step. Villa and Spurs have similar ability in their squads, similar budgets and similar aspirations. I can only see him leaving for a top 4 team.
