**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

danny simpson, chris eagles, john oshea, jonathon spectre, evans, that midfielder, bellion, dong, jonathon greening, plus about 50 other no-joes all the same grey player...never in a hundred years good enough to play for man utd.
all touted as being great youth... bad luck to those who end up with our ex youth players imo.

Ferguson was lucky that whoever put that early 90's youth team together had a bunch of players who would be world class. Many teams produce such players but never in a batch like that.

Whoever did the youth scouting/coaching back then needs bringing back. Then again it was much easier to break into the united team back then when you had to compete with the likes of paul parker danny wallace and clayton blackmore :D

Manu haven't produced a decent one for years.

i know, depressing isnt it...o@shea is a terrible player. looks like a fish out of water every time.

Evans, give it 12 months and he will have moved on too.

name a current member of our first 11-13 who came through as youth in the last 5 years..

thats right, no-one can because all of our recent youth have failed to make the grade.

we bought macheda so that doesnt cont either.

*according to the team released Aug 14th.

13 have come through our youth system, out of 36 current players in the squad.

That's not too bad.

Definitely at first, he's already done it pretty well last season. Never looked like the big scene affected him really. Depends how happy he was being a 3rd choice really.

Yup, all about if he can stick with been third choice until Rio starts to decline.

Evans was nothing short of out standing when he's played so far.

Regarding Arsenal's finances, don't forget that the property market crash has supposedly reduced the expected revenue from the Highbury redevelopment. So profits in the transfer market are used to 'break even' against the previous expectation.

Rio is already declining - in regards to fitness and his continual back problems, which appear to be getting worse every season (certainly no real improvement anyway)

And Vidic also tends to miss games htroughout the season, so Evans is always likely to get 20 - 30 starts a season with a good 50 - 75% of those being EPL and CL

Maybe only a rumour but Barca where in for JE after the CL final last season - either way he is an outstanding young Central half, who can also play either side, and has a great future at Man Utd

Remember also Corry Evans is now at the club also (doing well at U18 level I seem to recall) so that will make it doubly hard for JE to leave

Rio will HAVE to be replaced some time relatively soon because of his back and the instability of the back four because of this (after all inherrant unreliability of a players availability is never a good thing for the club)

I think thats whats stopped Fergie from giving him the Club Captaincy already (with Neville unlikely to ever play a full season again).

Rio is still a damned good player without doubt, but like last year back injuries lead to other minor issues which cause more matches to be missed - this will only get worse as he gets older (for the same kind of reason - just look at Neville, he has never really ever made it back in the last season and a bit apart from the odd game here and there)

Pretty sure Fergie said he wouldn't get it until Neville and Giggs had retired? I don't think Rio needs replacing, lets see how this season goes first.

Giggs I wouldnt argue with - but I cant see the point of a club captain that virtually never plays myself, kind of defeats the purpose for me

With Brown, De Laet both De Silva's (after all Fabio can play on the right also), OShea and Jonny Evans not to mention any kids who can play there I cant see Neville playing too many games with his loss of pace (unless its miraculously re-appeared over the summer)

Oh yes I agree completely, I'd like to see Rio being club captain now personally. He has been on the field for a long time. I don't think Evans, De Laet or Fabio are ahead of Neville on the right though, possibly Fabio, maybe De Laet (need to see more of him) but we need Evans in the centre.

I have no idea what Fergies plans for the right back position. He used Brown exclusively in the centre in pre season, so I assume Rio, Vidic, Evans and Brown will be our 4 CB's. Rafael and O'Shea fighting for first choice right back then?

Has anything been revealed about how long our players are out for? Specifically, Rafael, Brown and Vidic?

Brown is definitely on sub's bench tomorrow (according to reports) and may well start

Vidic is out for another week or two, Im not sure about Rafael

I personally cant see Neville playing at RB in the EPL or CL at all - possibly in FA Cup and CC depending on draw but thats all, his pace is just attrocious, he cant seemingly keep with the pace of the game these days

Fergie has played him in the centre last season (although I dont recall him covering himself in glory in that position)

I agree that all my suggestions have their weaknesses (less so Brown) but Neville's primary benefit at his peak was his attacking play and crosses, but if he cant keep up with the game and get back to cover his position, its just not worth it. Rafael needs to improve his positioning without doubt, but his speed acroos the ground gets him out of trouble against the lower teams at the very least - and he should become an excellent player given another full season

edit - Eurosport are reporting that Brown is fit and will be starting alongside Rio in the centre (with I guess OShea and Evra either side)
