**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

It's insulting to Moyes? I don't see why he has to give his opinion, most managers would just say 'that's a decision for David I think.'

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and Moyes himself has admitted that Lescott has had his head turned. He has shot himself in the foot by straight out saying there is NO way he will let him go.

Don't think it was that insulting tbh. What was insulting was that megalomaniac Hughes telling him that it's always difficult when big clubs come in for your players. Someone needs to tell him money doesn't make a club big over night.

Agreed, complete farce that he thinks Man City are a bigger club than Everton, even worse are all the city fans I know popping out of the woodwork, apparently they 'deserve' to win something.

agreed. big club my arse. Everton pee all over city.

Dont know whether no links to Liverpool are a good thing or a bad thing at the minute, we desperately need to sign some players but I get the feeling we're just going to roll past the end of the transfer window with no more signings (except maybe a defender).

Johnson and Aquilani are good signings, but have we improved the squad overall? Dont really think so. I was really hoping to build on last season's performance with a couple of class attacking players to add to the mix, but that looks unlikely now. We're still short at LW, RW and FW/ST.

Dont get me wrong, I think we can be up there, but I'm just not sure we have enough depth.

I don't really think any of the top 4 have improved their squads this summer, there is still time but as always bringing in a new player after the season has started and the preseason friendlies are over is usually tough on the new boys. Very few hit the ground running. I think with Ferdinand continually getting niggling injuries and Vidic now you are almost guaranteed to be missing him for a month or so over the course of a season, Evans picks up too many injuries too as he's not used to playing so many games, I think a new defender is a must. I think it was on the BBC gossip column saying that Man Utd are in for Shawcross, he came through our academy if it's the same player I'm thinking of, how stupid would that make selling him to buy him back if that happened.

Happens all the time though, players mature at different ages and you can't always keep hold of young players wanting first team football. Arsenal sold Keown then bought him back for about 10x the price, Spurs ditched Crouch and now he's returned etc.

Chances are with some of these players that had they stayed at their original club they never would have hit the big time due to restricted opportunities anyway.

lol, Arsenal managed a fairly low 3 new injury worries after our first game of the season.

I think at this point while we need a DM, we won't get one, I'm less fussed about transfer and more worried about Arsenal's training. We have the fitest squad on the pitch, supposedly, but half the team aren't capable of maintaining that without getting what appear to be constant overtraining injuries. Fix training, then get a DM, we'll do neither.

Fabregas, Sagna, Denilson all doubts for the game tomorrow, Fabregas being the obvious key and fairly unreplaceable loss in terms of quality.

I have been saying "Central Defender" all summer.............
And goal keeper.
And midfielder.
And striker.

I generally agree with this.

In the usual preseason prediction conversations with mates, I have stuck to the same prediction I made a few weeks ago.

Personally I think we will finish 3rd this year, behind Man Utd (who I think will finish 2nd) and Chelsea (who I think will win the league this year). We might pick up a cup or CL though.

What this would mean for Benitez (and indeed for some of our players) I dont know.

So apart from the full backs a player in every position? :D

The team is weak, one decent striker (Rooney), one decent Center mid (Carrick) and sometimes when they are fit and not serving suspensions two decent center backs.

The rest is not much cop, or completely unproven, it needed money spending on the squad last season, and instead he wasted 30.5 million pounds on Berbatoss.

don't cha know? That was all luck guys. United already have atpbx lined up to replace Fergie at the end of the season when he's inevitably sacked for fluking his way to a 4th straight title. His first act will be selling all the players bar Rooney and Carrick and bringing in all these decent proven players that we've heard so much about.

Because all the 5 star players want to come to Manchester instead of Madrid or Barca (or even god forbid London), we have always found it so easy to keep things under wraps until x player(s) have signed on the dotted line

Cant remember the last time we attracted and signed a really high profile international player (rather than up and coming players who came good while playing at Man Utd)

Im hoping Vidic's agent goes and jumps off a cliff today come to think of it
