Cant remember the last time we attracted and signed a really high profile international player (rather than up and coming players who came good while playing at Man Utd)

Probably Veron and we all know that that didn't exactly work wonders for us, I'll stick with Fergie's plan of buying proven premiership players or young players with obvious potential rather than shell out millions on over priced players like Ribery thank you very much :)

Hardly, A: he was on a free, B: when you look at the other clubs that were in for him i.e. Hull it's a no brainer that he chose us. Not saying that we wouldn't of got him had Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal also been in for him but I think Frank is more referring to when was the last time we signed a world renowned world class player in the Kaka mould ;)

I totally agree that in general this is the way to go (and yes Ribery seems to be vastly over priced)

It would have been nice to test the water with Valencia about Silva though (who is supposed to be available for around £20m or so - which compared to Valencia is a decent price if true)

We dont really have any naturally gifted wide men with international experience - Nani is looking good so far and so is Valencia but neither are really that experienced if at all in the CL, and Park isnt a natural wide player in the first place (he was originally bought as a central midfielder) and Giggs really doesnt have the legs for it.

After banking so much this summer it would have been nice to buy one big name thats all ;)

edit - and yes Veron was probably the last big name we succceeded in buying.

The papers are getting the most out of the Aguero to Chelsea story before A. Madrid's UCL game tomorrow I see, as they know that once he plays in that there is pretty much no chance he is moving clubs (at least to another UCL club).

I hope I'm wrong though, I hope he does come to Chelsea :)

Not sure we'd ever get Silva for that cheap, seems to me he'd cost at least 30 million and that was before Valencia came into money. Apart from Madrid though this is the worst summer to be buying players especially from abroad, with the world cup coming up the last thing any player would want to do is risk spending a season settling in at a foreign club and miss out on their country's squad for SA

I expect next summer to be the one where we (depending on this seasons success) really spend the money we got for Ronaldo, seems to me that Madrid and Barca already have their summer targets for next year (mainly Ribery & Fabregas) so expect us to have a some what open market in who we decide to pursuit

WC summers are where players cost the most aren't they? I would've thought clubs would move this summer or 2 years from now.

As stated - next summer is when most players will cost the most so even more unlikely Utd will buy anyone then

I would also suggest that anyone signing for any of the top four in England are still at the top of the game so wouldnt be discounted arbitrarily from their Int teams for signing on to any of them (being a big signing they arent likely to miss CL or EPL games)

Its not going to happen now - but if it had been in time for pre-season it would have been good

I saw Nemanja and -ic and got excited. :(

Stop it (-:

Fulham signed Duff. Good signing i reckon, we only have Seol as a Left sided winger, and hes well ...crap, so this could put Dempsey back on his natural side, with Gera/Davies fighting it for the other spots, think Dempsey is our first choice winger either way, Konchesky/Duff on one side would be pretty good.
