**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Have I missed something or has this thread turned into a Spurs thread. It's bad enough having to hear from deluded Spurs fans in the flesh without having to trawl through the junk whilst looking for transfer speculation.

Anything other than 4th will be a failure for spurs with the players they have on the books and the form they had last season after Harry joined.

Plus people on here kept assuming Wenger had lost the plot, so naturally Spurs must finish 4th :D

Spurs fans saying they are expecting 6th are covering their backsides. 6th will be a massive failure considering the clubs that would be around them.

I wouldn't go that far, but certainly 4th should be the ambitious target. 5th is the more realistic target, but it depends how the season unravels.

The top 4 plus big spending Man City might have something to say about that, plus Villa and Everton both have very tight ships with great organisation. Ok they haven't spent the same as Spurs but their squads are so much more settled.

Once Spurs have proved the 'best of the rest' moniker then they can start to realistically think about 4th, today against West Ham will be a good test of that.

I dont think so- unless you honestly believe someone OTHER than Arsenal are going to majorly slip out of the top 4 (Arsenal have had such a blistering start (albeit against teams unmotivated for one reason or another) I think Arsenal are more likely to keep up that form more than Spurs at the moment (not sure who Spurs play next weekend but I know its the Man Utd match at OT for Arsenal which is usually a humdinger)

However much I hate saying it Liverpool will be right there at the end within a few points - even without the quality backup striker they desperately need, and the only real question makr about Chelsea is with tactics from the new manager. However badly Man Utd do (and coming 2nd to anyone would be considered failure after the last few years) I cant see them doing badly enough to drop down to 5th or lower

I would love Everton to break into the top four but with Lescott basically gone, I just dont think they will be good enough (they where going to struggle in the 1st place) - or even AV, just to mix it up a bit - I just really hope that City dont otherwise its just an advert to spend £100m on a team to buy it, and another £100 m or so on additional players and suddenly you are top four in the country, in one of the top leagues in the world. I just think thats wrong no matter what club does it

I would go along with that - but as suggested they need a few years of doing that consistently first

They were the best of the rest for 2 years, then Jol had a bad start to the season and Levy replaced him. Consistency is key though, and as mentioned before this is the first transfer window in a while where Spurs haven't made any wholesale changes; which I think is part of the reason they're playing better as a unit.

Given we can't afford him I doubt Arsenal will have much competition for his signing until Man City put in a late bid and offer a massive wage.

In other news it looks like Dean Ashton will be announcing his retirement. Seemed like a good player but he's a crock so retirement's probably the best course of action to take.

I thought you were saying van der Vaart was a crock, I really need to read. :(

Anyway, I read somewhere that van der Vaart wants to go back to Germany because of his wife's cancer so I can't see him starting afresh in England.

Edit- bloodline, is there even any point in Arsenal buying VDV? Surely that's the one position (attacking midfielder/winger) Arsenal are covered? You've got loads of class players already for that position!

Edit 2- Actually, Spurs should sign him, of course he wouldn't get in the first team....or the second team....but I'm sure he'd settle for a place on the bench of the second team. ;)

.

Neither Everton or Villa have anything like the squads and replacements Spurs have. Everton raid the 16 year olds for replacements and blood kids. Our back four is constantly reshuffled for fitting in replacements.

I'm different I don't expect Liverpool to have anything like the season they did last year. Everton will do well to finish 8th this year. So many clubs have improved the squads while ours has gotten weaker.

Football has always been an advert to spend millions. Its how Manu maintained their grip for so long, Chelsea got there in the first place and City can now too.

According to reports in Greece, Nemeth has joined AEK on loan. Reportedly they enquired about El Zhar initially but were told he wasn't available but were offered Nemeth.

Given our shortage of striking options, it is a bit of a suprise that our most promising young striker has been allowed to leave. On the other hand, playing regular football at a fairly decent level should be good for him.

oi Baz !

Any news on that N'gog ? going to Wednesday ?

Saw some rumors on here before, and you're a Liverpool fan :p

Know anything ? We got another striker on loan, but was still wondering about the Liverpool kid.

It was reported on some French site a while back that he was joining Wednesday but it never got reported over here. It's gone completely quiet now and Rafa said the other day that he's not looking to let any of the first team leave so it looks like being a non-starter.

Who would not love to have VDV in their squad. We have a lot of quality players but I would not miss the chance of getting him.

Everton agree Worf fee

If the sale goes through he'll become one of the most expensive defenders in history. I'd imagine a few Italian clubs might've paid more for defenders but that's the sort of money you pay for world class players not Lescott quality players.

When you consider how much defenders like Vidic, Agger, Skrtel, Bassong and Vermaelen cost it's a complete joke of a transfer. Nearly £40 million pound for Toure and Lescott :o

Although I think they'll struggle this season, this deal could be good for Everton long-term. They haven't got a lot of money and although Lescott was important to them, £24m could go a long way to massively improving their side as a whole.
