So that would value Berbatov at 23 M which would be a joke. Evans would never be anything more than a free, and probaly a good will jesture from Spurs for taking him off Utd's hands.

The hate for JEvans is pretty unbelievable in this thread. I still really rate him, and he's a young lad who got played (a lot) at the start of his career and understandably picked up injuries as a result. Do we now just farm anyone out if they have a dip in form? For me his ability to play as fullback or CB is also a pretty good asset to have.

Its not bad form that gets him the hate, its the fact he is making schoolboy errors in most of the games he plays.
Whether its being out of position, getting to tight, not picking up his man on a set piece, or if he does pick up his man being beaten to the ball, people running off him, ball watching, being out muscled etc etc.
I'm all for giving players a chance, I was up for Nani loving a long, long time before anyone else, telling everyone what a great prospect he was while the rest of the manchester united faithfull were up for sending him to the glue factory. I think Anderson has it in him to be a top attacking midfield player if given the chance and actually played in position, and have been of that opinion since he signed.

I dont rate Evans at all, and never have done.

Are there only certain players I am allowed to not rate to fit in with everyone else?

He makes PIG look composed - he wouldn't stand out at Stoke. In fact, he wouldn't even get in the Stoke side.

I dont think Evans has it in him to play at a consistent level.

You simply cant have someone playing in one of the most important parts of the pitch who has a nervous breakdown everytime he missplaces a pass.

*Checks to see if Arsenal have signed anybody yet*

*Leaves thread*

:( :(

Gerviniho! or whatever his name is, that top class international forward that nobody has ever heard of is coming in to fire you into the big time!

Woot woot! all aboard the Arsenal trophey train!

He hasn't signed yet though, or at least nothing has been made official unless it happened within the last hour or two. To be fair to Gervinho he was the only player in Ligue 1 last season who made it into double figures for both goals and assists. It may be weaker than the Premier League and La Liga, but it's not as if every defence is terrible.

Gervinho isn't a bad player but it's going to take a lot more than just him to sort out Arsenal, ESPECIALLY if/when they lose Fabregas/Nasri, etc.

Smalling is superb, absolute awesome defender. So glad we pinched him when Arsenal were in for him too, he is exactly what Arsenal need right now.

TBF the exact same thing can be said of the young player they nabbed from us

It still sounds as if we'll (Man Utd) get one of either Nasri or Modric. I hope so :(

I'd be amazed if we signed Modric, wouldn't be so surprised to see him move to Chelsea on deadline day but to this point we've made no confirmed enquiry thus surely meaning that the renties are favourites if he does go anywhere

Nasri on the other hand.....

Absolutely, I don't think any Arsenal fan is under the illusion that Gervinho is going to arrive and solve all our problems. I see people creaming themselves over the sight of Hazard when Gervinho has the better stats from the opposite wing.

Modric will suit us 10x better than Nasri. Modric knows how to play in the center of midfield with one other partner. He knows his defensive duties and still engages in dribbling and cutting through defenses. He is an awesome player, but we will not sign him due to the fact that -

1. Tottenham do not want to sell, they do not need the money and Modric is under contract for another 6 years!

2. Modric wants to stay in London.

Nasri is a good player but I see him more as a attacking midfielder, he likes to dribble and storm up front and with a 4-4-2 this could leave us exposed. Limiting him so that he stays back is an idea but look at Anderson, it did not really work with him. We signed Anderson as a AMC but turned him into something completely different.

With this being said, I would still welcome Nasri, for £20M you will be hard pressed to find another player with his quality and experience in the PL for that price.

Our best performances in the run in last season came with Carrick and Giggs in a 2 man midfield, personally I see Nasri as a younger version of Giggs (in relation to his current position, not Giggs' wing play back in his prime) so that can only be an improvement given this will undoubtedly be Giggsy's last season :(

If Nasri is the only midfielder we sign this window then I'd expect another to be brought in next summer, maybe one more in the Modric/Scholes role. We'd probably have a good shout of getting Modric himself next summer tbh

If Arsenal have a (mentally) tough season this season they might not even make the Champion's League which will make it even harder to sign decent players at reasonable prices.

Wenger really needs to just get the money he wants and sign the players he wants and stop faffing about otherwise I think Arsenal could find themselves in trouble this time next year.

TBF a dip in form is forgiveable, Evans though has been pretty awful now for 2 whole seasons (with his only great season being the 08/09 one) and with the signing of Jones I cant see where he fits in anymore.

He'll be sold next summer IMO

Hazard is dreamy on FM though. Dreamy... *grabs box of tissues*

:p

Absolutely, there's a danger of dropping out of the top four with the quality of the teams competing you can hardly call it a "big 4" anymore, it's more like a big 5 or 6. I'm sure that Man Utd and Chelsea will always be fighting for 1st and their fans would expect that, I think some of us Arsenal fans have unrealistic expectations, however we should be expecting to finish within the Champions League places, at least I'm expecting that.

It's been mentioned that Liverpool are one of the teams that could potentially take us out of the top four, and it's been said that they're strengthening but who have they really bought that makes their squad so much better than ours? They've spent a lot of money in this window and none of their signings have really blown me away. Spurs are out of it unless they buy a decent forward and some defenders and City will be fighting for the league.

I still think the top four next season will consist of City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd but I have no idea which order. Wenger does need to pull his finger out and start buying the players we need, maybe he's been working hard behind the scenes, who knows. He's traditionally not a guy who talks much about speculation, or transfers unless a deal has been done and I don't think that's going to change any time soon.

I'm getting a bit impatient for news but I still have faith that he has a plan, I don't see him letting Nasri and Fabregas walk out the door without some replacements in mind and we've had all sorts of names chucked about. It's just frustrating to see your rivals spending money and your team who needs to bring in players just sat there apparently doing nothing. :p
