Arsenal supporter here...

What im seeing is the formation of super clubs. Man City, Chelsea and Man U, feeding of the rest of the league, buying every one elses good players.

Arsenal needto abandon this excuse that they want to develope youngsters.... its a great idea, but the league is ruthless. Other teams do not care that you have debts, are building a new stadium, have a wage structure, need to speed within your means.

They will just smash and grab what they can, to make sure they are in the Champions league positions and or challenging for the league.

Arsenal need to change. Do what ever it takes to get back to the time when we had the class or Bergkamp, Henry, Viera, Pires, Petit, Overmars... etc...

To be honst with you, I think it takes the **** what Chelsea and Man City have done.

Both where like Spurs.... a very good mid range team, that never really made it in to the top 4 over the years. (City werent even mid range, they were bottom half) who basically over the last 5-10 years have spent lavishly pulling them self out of obscurity by shear cash alone (Like cheating on Championship manager with a crap team) they have benefited by paying huge cash to good players, and now that the likes of Arsenal may or may not get bought out, Fifa et all have changed the rules so that clubs will be denied access to the Champions league if they spend more than they generate amongst other rules.....

Problem is here, its too late already. Man City and Chelase have already spent their money and artificially put them selves at the top and now there is no time for any other clubs to catch up and do the same.

No justice, but I guess something must be done....

Arsenal duo Manuel Almunia & Nicklas Bendtner in move talks.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14094433.stm

Arsenal are shaking things up and changing things...i hope, for their fans' sake, they start bringing people in.

I was hoping that Bendtner would stay for one more season as I have always liked him as a player (Despite his claims to be the best in the world lol) but he has no consistency. I know DM will say he never gets the games or plays out of position but he misses some very easy chances.

Doesn't look like he will stay another season but wish him the best. Shame he could never reproduce his reserve team football accuracy in front of goal.

I think people misunderstand Bendtner, he said his aspiration is to become the best striker in the world, not that he believes he already is the best striker in the world. You wouldn't expect a young striker to come out and say they only aspire to be an alright striker... :p

I think we need to keep him, we'll have van Persie who will probably spend some of next season injured, we have Chamakh who had a good first season and then we have the likes of players coming back from loans like Vela. If van Persie is injured I don't trust Chamakh and Vela to do the job up front, if one of them is tired or in poor form then we only have one other option and keeping Bendtner would have given us a much better option than Vela in my opinion.

In fact if Wenger sells Bendtner and doesn't bring in another striker then he's made it clear that he's going to continue playing with one up front which doesn't suit us in my opinion. Whenever we need a goal in the last few minutes he puts more up front. Here's a crazy idea why don't we just start with two guys up front from the beginning, and then take one off for an extra defender later in the game... :p

One can only imagine how much the players you said would cost now in todays market? I know Wenger bought them before they became superstars but they would all be 35M plus players. Footballs gone crazy and if you dont have a sugar daddy like Chelsea or City, or don't have the turnover of Utd you simply wont compete at the top.

Once Arsenal have paid off the stadium and got rid of Wenger who is the appitimy of prudent with money I think they could start winning again, until then they must be content with top four which is going to be harder with Liverpool and hopefully Spurs competing for it.

I don't see how we can go the season with just Gibbs though, who else is there to cover him? We have Traore coming back from a loan spell with Juventus where he hardly played, and we have a couple who can fill in there but it's not ideal. Another weak spot in the team until Wenger pulls his finger out.

I've said this before and I'll stick with it, Wenger gets this season to show us what his intentions are, but this is the last time I'll tolerate crap transfers and crap performances. He's been great for the club over the years, probably the best manager we've ever had, and he's made some great records, but there comes a time when we need to stop living in the past and start planning for the future. While Wenger has laid down some good foundations and kept the club going during a stadium move, and done well to keep the team in the Champions League with an apparent small budget I think now is the time to start pulling his finger out in the transfer market.

We're well on our way to paying for the stadium, we've got cash to burn so let's buy the players we need and start making a real statement of intent. Gibbs isn't good enough, he's showed that in the times he's played, we need another creative attacking midfielder, another striker with a proven track record, another defender as well. What annoys me is that we've got players like N'Zogbia who won't command ridiculously huge wages or transfer fees, who would probably jump at the chance to play for a Champions League team but Wenger seems totally blind to them.

that will be nearly £70m wont it IF the trio are sold?

I cant imagine even Wenger not buying anyone with that kind of money in his "pocket".

Of course it may not be of the quality you wish for........With Almunia going too (unless thats a dubious rumour) another gk is definitely required for sure

If Wenger genuinely intends to use Gibbs as first choice that's laughable.

Indeed, he said that he sold Clichy because he was in the last year of his contract and Gibbs needs to be given a chance. It's worked with young players before, Cashley for example replacing Silvinho and then Clichy replacing Cashley, but Clichy and Cashley both have much more natural talent than Gibbs who hasn't been anything other than dog ****.

Plus the fact whenever he plays he breaks a nail and ends up on the sidelines for 18 months.

I think we'd be "okay" with the keepers we have. Almunia hasn't played for quite a while, he lost his place to Fabianski who was laughably poor but then had a string of very good performances, after his injury Szczesny stepped in and made some mistakes but picked up after that. I think both of them would be able to cover the number 1 spot and then there's Mannone who's still very young. Ideally I'd like Given but that'll never happen.

Given would be an excellent addition - but I think your call is correct lol

I had forgotten you had so many already on your books to be honest

edit - newest rumour is WS is requiring £250k /week to move to Utd........like that will ever happen (could be dubious , who knows right now lol)

I think Given would be likely if we had a manager who was willing to make that type of signing. I applaud Wenger for wanting to bring youth players through the ranks and then into the first team but you can't try that season after season and an experienced and dependable campaigner like Given would be an great signing, there was even potential to do a swap with Clichy!

£250,000 a week is an obscene amount of money. I'll confess I don't know that much about Sneijder but I'd imagine there are better value for money players.

i do feel for Arsenal a bit, as they could well loose nas and cesc, there seems to be a real shortage of quality players available, and will end up paying silly money for like 4 like players, wenger is a little buggered really

Would City sell to a competitor though, I thought that was where the Given issue started and stopped?

As for Sneijder, I can't say I watch any Italian league (unless I'm attempting to self-enforce drowsiness) but he does look handy in Europe. ~30m + 250kpw is disgustingly expensive though for a not young player.

Doesn't Verm play at LB too? I can see us getting in two CBs and moving him to LB. I think that would sure up our defence.

With goalies we have lots of potential but no one has stepped up and claimed the spot for themselves. Each of them has had a good run and a bad run of games in goal. Even Mannone looked good but is the youngest of the three.

If we have £70m to spend I would be pleased if they just brought in 6 twelve million pound players. Maybe one or two pushing £15m. Can't see Wenger spending more than that on a player with his history.

In reality I can see us going into the season with three new signings and losing four or five players :(

And to make it worse keeping players like Diaby and Denilson.

I still have a little part of me thinking that Barca won't budge and neither will Arsenal and Fab might stay another year. He is signed up to 2015, so price won't drop next season and I don't think Fab will push for a transfer and hurt Arsenal in the pocket.

Vermaelen can play left back but I don't think it's ideal. He's our strongest centre back and I think in his first season he was one of the best in the league as well, to put him at left back would be criminal. I think our squad will be something like:

GK: Szczesny
GK: Fabianski
GK: Mannone

RB: Sagna
RB: Eboue
CB: Jenkinson
CB: Squillaci
CB: Djourou
CB: Vermaelen
CB: Koscielny
LB: Gibbs
LB: Traore

DM: Song
CM: Diaby
CM: Denilson
CM: Ramsey
CM: Wilshere

LM: Arshavin
LM: Rosicky

RM: Walcott
RM: Gervinho

ST: RVP
ST: Chamakh
ST: Vela

I'm not sure if Fabregas will be sold in this window or not, if Barcelona don't offer at least £35,000,000 then I don't think Wenger will sell. We don't especially need the money, and even though he wants to play for Barcelona he isn't the type of guy to throw a tantrum or do a Tevez or anything like that, he'll be a professional and just do his job on the pitch.

If Nasri goes and Fabregas stays I don't know if Wenger will strengthen. I heard Valbuena and Gourcuff mentioned but know virtually nothing about those players and they were probably only mentioned because they're French. Personally I think if Nasri leaves then we need to sign another versatile player who can play on either flank or through the middle. If Cesc goes then we need a top class player to come in and replace him. Relying on the likes of Wilshere or Ramsey to fill his boots isn't acceptable for me.

I'd also like another defensive midfielder, if Song gets injured or more likely suspended then we have to play Wilshere at the back of the three midfielders and that's not where he should be.
