Except we'd been pursuing him the whole window.

Come on you can't seriously believe that Wenger has been planning this all summer and it's just "happened" to all come together on the last day.

It got to the last day and you threw big money on a signing that in fact turned out to be average, the last day forced a panic buy. Pretty poor price as you had been tracking him for apparently ages. :D

I'm going to go out on a limb, and say that you are expecting the Arsenal board to aim for more than they are doing. I believe while ever Arsenal are qualifying for the Champs League, they are quite happy.

I think for a club of Arsenal's size and stature within English football being "happy" and aiming for a top four finish is poor. Especially given the calibre of players they have (or had until recently) and the style of football they play.

Cesc actually missed quite little of last season, and our winning percentage with him was 64%, without 31%, Arsenal didn't cope without him in the slightest. Clichy is quality, seems to be when it was clear he was going, every defensive error in the past 4 seasons was attributed to him and him alone.

If Arteta is true, he's very decent but Cesc has repeatedly run rings around him in midfield for a reason. He's a VAST improvement on any other choice we currently have. But with 60mil left to spend, and some seriously quality players out there available, underwhelming still.

The problem is, no one else wanted a DM this window, same way no one else wanted Jones when we went for him, the next window, several people wanted Jones and we had no chance. Hazard/M'vila, they'll only be higher up bigger clubs lists next transfer window, 30mil might be a lot today, but they might be 45mil next transfer window when City/Chelsea/Liverpool/Real decide they need strengthening.

Arsenal do not have endless funds like City and Chelsea, wenger is saving the kitty for winter window and next summer. (fingers crossed)

Learn how to spell son

And no, no he wasn't. Maybe for a short spell last year, completely dispensable, i'm sure our managerial staff wouldn't have made him so available otherwise.

Can you actually quote me? No didn't think so.

And yes Meireles was one of your best players. He was pivotal to Dalglish's early success last season and along with Suarez got you over the line in your win over Arsenal. He's a better player than Henderson & Adam also

Twitter rumours that the reason LFC haven't pushed for a sale of Brad Jones is because his kid is supposedly really sick, and we didn't want to force a move on him and his family at this time.

To be fair Moyes has proven to be pretty good at signing relatively unknown players who turn out to be pretty damn good.

I agree far better than he is at spending money, when it comes to spending large amounts on players relative to our fortunes he's pap.

So he will make a good united manager when fergie kicks the bucket.

eh, I'm sure most football clubs would take a "average" joint top scorer in the Premier League ;)

Arsenal's 'size and stature within English football' is that of a top 6 team who have consistently overperformed. They don't have access to billion pound budgets and don't pretend to have. Players such as Bergkamp and Henry have retired and moved on. This was ALWAYS going to happen to Arsenal without a billionaire takeover.

Yeah, the playing field is very different now.

For the forseeable future we can't compete with both Manchester teams and Chelsea (possibly Liverpool too?) when it comes to big money signings and wages, fact. If there's a hot prospect player we're interested in, as soon as clubs that pay £100K plus wages make it known they're interested to, we'll lose out. I dislike it, but the board seem intent on keeping things thrifty, probably in the hope financial fair play rules are implemented effectively?

Whilst I don't think the 2 midfield signings of Benayoun and Arteta are the 'answer' they are better than nothing, and certainly more than I was expecting at 4pm today they will both add some much need creativity and experience.
