Summer Transfer Window 2017/18 - Rumours & Signings

I'm a United fan and I've always preferred Messi. Ronaldo is an outstanding goalscorer but he's more selfish and I don't like his temper tantrums when he's not the centre of attention on the pitch. I admire his drive and determination to be the best, his work-rate is second to none, but I've always preferred watching Messi. Ronaldo scores some great goals but he doesn't have the technical ability on the ball that Messi has, and people who can dribble with the ball and beat players are the type of player I prefer to watch. Look at the stats for confirmation of Messi's greater ability. He's only 50 career goals behind Ronaldo from 160 fewer appearances, has a better goal ratio in every competition except at international level, has more assists, more goals in La Liga, and less of his goals have come from the penalty spot. Sure, he's disappointed at international level but I've never understood the argument that a player has to win international trophies to prove their quality.

Anyway, on topic there is no way Citeh are buying him. Sanchez, on the other hand, is a realistic target imo.
I've heard quite the opposite about Messi. In training he regularly insults and shouts at other players for not passing to him when it's clear he's in a worse position. Many who have left Barca have said Messi never gets pulled up for anything and managers are afraid to discipline him or tell him he's in the wrong. It's Messi's club, no doubt about it. Barcelona need a top to bottom rebuild and when was the last player from their academy who went on to cement a place in the first team squad? There hasn't been one in years really. Most that have come through have been subs if bit part players and have ended up leaving to get regular game time.

Wasn't he reporting that Klopp was holding out for Bayern as he was on a plane to Liverpool to sign for us? Not that I believe it's over just yet but there are a few other places reporting the same story and that Barca will go for Di Maria instead. Equally there are Barca based newspapers saying the opposite.

So City have reportedly offered £70mill for Sanchez.

If that is true then we should be biting their hands off, although I'm loathed to see him go to City as it is.

Not sure what is happening with Sanchez anymore, Wenger says he is staying this season but chances of him signing a new contract are very slim. I don't think Sanchez himself has handed in a transfer request.

Either way it needs to be resolved asap, if Sanchez wants to go I don't blame him. I mean after the almighty shower of **** in our first 2 games, Arsenal are a sinking ship and I think Sanchez can see that. With Arsenal he realistically doesn't see us as title contenders and to add to that, we aren't in the CL. Not sure if he would be happy with Europa league, highly doubt it.

Unless I've missed a recent bit of news Wenger has consistently said he won't be sold. To anyone.
£70m would be hard to turn down, I think Wenger's preference was to sell him abroad, not to a rival.
Not really. They're already under the most pressure, imo... they're considered to have the best team/have spent a lot on their weak area (and more!)/etc. I don't think it'd meaningfully add to that pressure, and would at the same time be weakening a rival.
They have spent the most but no one will care if they dont win the league, media seems to be getting excited and hyping United up. If Sanchez did go, it'd take the pressure of United a bit. Spending money for the sake it looking at their lineup today, not sure who'd they drop.

So PSG spending more and more money after Neymar. Close to agreeing a £128mill deal plus Lucas Moura for Kylian Mbappe. Also looking at Fabinho from Monaco for a combined deal of £201mill

some rumours this morning are that Mbappe is moving to PSG on a one year loan to start with.......everything "smells" completely wrong about PSG's level of spending even before this deal but Im even more convinced nothing will happen

The balance of the transfer market was already wobbling and they have just pushed it over.

The owners have spent a fortune already and not really dented the Champions League, after Monaco winning the title last year I think they have just decided to double down and throw more money at it in the hope of winning something outside of France.

Something didnt seem right about the Neymar deal, but I was happy that the transfer has upset La Liga and Barca who have had the scales tipped in their favor for too long.

I reckon Real have a chance of winning the Champions league for a 3rd time in a row this year. No one can touch them.

Maybe PSG would be in with an outside chance?

Nah PSG aren't in the same ball park as RM at the moment. Neymar will fill his boots in the french League but they always come unstuck in the CL. PSG are a good side but very fragile.

Do hope Zlatan comes back, miss watching him.
Im not 100% convinced

Undoubtedly a fantastic player, and we were lucky to get him last summer and he was a revelation and cruelly robbed of crucial matches with the injury.

2 things concern me -

1) The movement / transitions are so much better and faster when he doesnt play, and Utd play much better as a team without him on the field
2) His wages would be better off spent on a traditional wide man to stretch defences rather than a backup to Lukaku (and as soon as he is fit, Im concerned it will actually end up being Lukaku being the backup to Zlatan)

If he is just coming back for the rest of the season as a backup to Lukaku then totally fair enough and it would be a great addition.
