Summer Transfer Window 2017/18 - Rumours & Signings

I'm hoping Wayne can turn things around at Everton. I hated Phil Neville at united but he had a bit of a renaissance when he joined Everton.

Phil Neville was good at Man Utd he was just a small fish in a big pond who shone a bit more at Everton. Rooney on recent evidence is completely shot, if he turns things round the comparisons will be with Lazarus not Phil Neville.

This Neves transfer reminds me a lot of Tevez and Mascherano signing for West Ham. Tevez and Masch ended up at West Ham because nobody was prepared sign them straight out of South America for the huge fees their owners were demanding.

Neves has been touted about and linked with huge money moves to a top side for the past couple of years but nobody was willing to pay up for him. Sending him to Wolves works for everyone - Wolves get a top prospect for a relatively small fee, Neves is put in the shop window and Mendes has a chance of making a killing from a possible big money deal in a year or so's time.

I wouldn't call it a relatively small fee for a championship team. Whilst I take your point about putting in the shop window, if memory serves me right I don't recall too many champ players selling for 20m+

Maybe theyre taking a gamble on going up but heck whatever the situation I'm happy on bagging this calibre of this player

Yeah I bet we don't get any one else till window is nearly closed

Part of me actually wouldnt be surprised if we got Robertson and then nobody else at all. I said before the transfer window opened and I will say it again, I really dont know why we are so poor at transfers, so slow, so dithering. Every single human being on the planet knows that defence is our number 1 problem, why on earth we havent yet secured a centre back I will never know.

It's relatively small compared to the fee that was supposedly being demanding when he was being linked with Liverpool etc. And if he were to prove himself at Wolves and show everyone he's' as good as they say, in today's market, you'll get 3 times what you've paid.

I just don't have much faith in fsg I think we lowball far too often, our pr under fsg has been a joke since they arrived.

But then we get the odd great deal e.g salah etc so I know fsg can invest well and they have invested good over all, it's like you say it's obvious our defence is dire so we should just pay up to fix it not waste time

like the Peresic situation for Utd, it could easily have been sorted weeks maybe even months ago if Utd werent low-balling significantly.

Whether anyone here agrees on the price or not is irrelevant, at the end of the day if the manager sees x position as a significant weakness, the sooner its sorted the better for all concerned.

Pre-season matches themselves are usually not competitive (apart from the occasional Barca / RM /etc for the media game)but getting a full pre-season with the new team is vitally important just to get the new team mates and work out how to fit together.

(not to mention style and quality of pre-season, just because a player is ready for one club has no relation on whether he is (match) fit enough for another, let alone in another country)

How can anyone equate however many millions on a transfer vs arriving early for pre-season (one of the few times where you can actually "buy" free time) - every EPL match is so competitve now , all teams have to be competitive from early Aug whatever the match schedule is.

Welcome back Wayne.

It was probably a landscape photo.

Or he probably just got into shape so that he could 'cheat' the medical, he'll be back looking like Homer Simpson within 3mths.

Still unsure how I feel about this transfer, although realistically hes probably the best out of the available strikers?

He is ready to go in the EPL and thats the biggest plus point (and he has the full pre-season to get used to new team mates)

Nearly every other linked striker may have required a settling in period and potentially even harder negotiating than Everton.

He should be good for ~30+ goals a season in all comps without taking into account "better team mates" factor.

Utd still need another big goal scorer even allowing for the likes of Mkhi / Pogba / Martial / Rashford improving on last seasons efforts.

(this could have course still be Ibra after Nov /Dec, but to be decided. Wouldnt like to go into Jan window NEEDING a n other scorer though.....)

We were taken to the cleaners though, given he really only has EPL experience and little to no top level European game time. At least we got rid of Rooney though so thats a plus point :)
