Summer Transfer Window 2021/2022

I don't think you can say with any certainty that he's got 5 years left at his best. Not all players age well, particular those that have suffered a lot of injuries through their career like Kane has.

He could play on for 4-5 years still scoring 20+ goals per season or he could have 18 months of peak football in him before his body starts deteriorating on him. Given that he'll demand a 5 year deal earning £10m+ per year + signing on fees & agent fees, you're looking at a near £200m commitment to sign him. Again, you could get 5 years of good football out of him but it's a big gamble.

I don't think he is. He's just a footballer who works hard to prolong his career as much as possible. Others clearly can't keep that motivation to stay clean living and train as hard for as long as he does. I think he's a mental freak rather than physical.

There are plenty of players who train their hearts out and do everything right and don't have the longevity. Its a combination of luck, work and adapting your game.

The players that get to the top in football and have a 10 year plus career are already in the genetically gifted group. That doesn't mean that injuries don't cut short that time or being flogged for season after season when you have niggles doesn't take a few years off.

You can "will" yourself better, fitter, stronger all you want but if the genetics and luck aren't there you don't have a chance.

Thats not to say that Ronaldo doesn't stack the deck in his favour as much as he can through diet, preventative exercise etc but he has been lucky still.

Majority of players look after themselves better these days and with the advancements in sports science (diets, training and recovery techniques), it's not surprising to see athletes have longer careers.

In other news, sounds like Gini to Bayern is picking up pace and Mbappe has declared his love for Liverpool. I'm hoping Edwards can work out an Origi - Mbappe swap deal with PSG.

Thing is, your buying at completely the wrong time.

5 years ago sure, even 3.

Whats he going to be worth 3 or 4 years from now at 30 or 31 years old?

The cost of 3 years of Harry kane including salary and transfer fee will be £120m+ . Then his value will be next to £0m.

Spurs ain't stupid they have extracted maximum value for every player they sold and few have been worth the price tag.

If and it is a big IF. We can do a deal with Martial in exhange it could end up not being bad business. Say 60 million plus Martial. Martial is 2 and a bit years younger than Kane so if we can get 4-5 seasons out of Kane then it would be good business and lets face it. Kanes ability doesn't rely on pace so there is a good chance he will have legs in his career.

This is just theory and from my personal opinion I don't even want Harry Kane. We have had no problems scoring goals this season. Even with Martial out for a large portion of it. Cavani on for another season I really think we need to shore up defence and CM.

If a Martial deal IS possible. I wouldn't begrudge it would martial move to spurs?

Remember we overpay our players by apprimately 150% compared to other British clubs.

Salah £10m
Martial £13m

By salary our strike force of rashford, martial and cavani should be top scorers in the EPL.

How on earth have we ended up paying Martial that much. If you took his peak 6 month or even 3 month period at United he still wouldn't be worth that salary.

Our wage structure is all over the place.

Why is Henderson paid so much. Why is Ighalo paid so much. Why is Mata paid so much. Martial is the worst but we have 3 players there who should be on half what they are.

Because they play for the badge

People say Kane will be too old in three or four years time, let us not forget that Lewandowski is still leading the European Golden Boot, and comfortably so, at 32.

I think the thing people are saying is Kane hasn't had an injury free season so far and those are bound to effect the longevity of his career, I wouldn't expect him to stay at the top for 5+ more seasons either.
He would command a crazy fee and wages and I think only Man U, Man City, Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid are the ones who would willing pay it, he would get bucket loads of goals for any of those teams but not sure for how many seasons, I would certainly hope for 4 minimum but I can't see him as being some sort of 'peter pan' and not dropping in his early 30s.

The thing is it's a gamble at that point, he could do that or he could be a Torres. Rather an expensive gamble to make for £120m-ish

In the bundesligue

Even with the weighting of each league he’s still ahead. And yes, some of the lower teams in the Bundesliga aren’t massively strong but it’s still one of the top European leagues.

The difference is bayern dwarf every other team.

Bayern are a cl competing team perennially. The rest apart from the odd strong fortune teams have Scottish pl budgets.

And Cavani and Ibra are still banging them in. The question is, how many top strikers are still doing that at the very elite level at that age? How many people would pay top dollar for any of them on a long term deal?

Would Lewandowski do it in the PL if he came over? Almost certainly but how much would you pay for him and how much would you have to pay him.

Do you want a striker that will only be there for a few years and might stunt the development of other younger strikers at the club or mean that you can't sign a top young striker if the opportunity comes up.

Ronaldo hasn't exactly worked out well for Juventus has he.

According to Transfermarkt, Lewandowski has missed 18 games through injury in his entire career. Kane has missed 20 in the past two seasons.

Just because Lewandowski has been able to play on at a high level until he's 32 that doesn't mean every striker will. For every Lewandowski there's an Owen or Torres or Van Persie, who by 30 were on their last legs.

Different types of striker. Owen and Torres were deadly finishers but relied heavily on their pace. Once injuries caught up with them, and their pace went, they weren't left with much. RVP had far more to his game and was still banging them in for Feyenoord at 35.

The likes of Kane and Lewandowski might not be graced with pace but they do have the size and strength, as well as world class finishing, which means injuries should impact their game less. I personally expect Kane to be banging them in at the highest level until his mid thirties, unless his legs completely fall off.

Is there a punchline in there somewhere? He's the top scorer in Serie A (6 ahead of anyone else) with 29 in 33. He scored 31 in 33 the previous season, 21 in 31 in his debut season. He's netted over 100 goals for Juve in 3 seasons, if that 'hasn't worked out' at the arse end of his career then....

There are some bizarre views in this thread.
