Summer Transfer Window 2021/2022

Anyone else think this is just a ploy to get them to bend the rules for Barca? Like the league does every time there is an issue with Barca or Madrid?

cvc just agreed a deal foe €3bn surely that has a clause that Messi has to stay.
The CVC deal was going to provide Barca with the cash needed to keep Messi however Barca are very much against it, as are Real. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, it's a terrible shortsighted deal for La Liga.
is this the same deal @BaZ87 mentioned earlier that’s 50 years long?
Yes but there's no guarantee that this will go through. Real and Barca are fighting it.

I’m sure I seen it was knocked back by Seria A. Anyway I still reckon there could be some sort of power play with announcing it the way they did.

Mbappe, Messi and Neymar front 3. That's a bit juicy.

Thats about 2.5m/week in wages and you would get 0 help defensively from 3/11th of your team. Would be interesting to see what happened but I imagine it would be an awful idea in practice.

long ball game to the front 3 and bet on you scoring more than the other team. Would make for some interesting games for the neutral to watch.

The flip side is you’d need 4 or 5 players to defend against them on the counter or attacks in general.

Standard in Ligue 1 is garbage so they'd be pumping teams by 3/4 anyway, you don't need to worry defensively when you're scoring 5 a game.

No doubt Messi will be on a low salary at PSG, but will, by mere co-incidence, become an advisor for the Visit Qatar State Tourism Board, earning £150m a year.

No different to City’s sudden influx of sponsorships at vastly inflated prices from companies owned or operated by the Abu Dhabi government.

Obviously nobody could have anticipated covid but Barca have been run like a mad house for the past 4-5 years and this financial meltdown was coming, sooner or later. It's actually a warning to supporters of PL clubs who want fan ownership because it's that model that leads to these situations. Presidents of these sides make decisions to appease supporters but with little thought to the financial consequences. It's a shame that the quality of Barca's squad has declined so much because their players are there for the taking right now.

They would but they don't really care about the league. Its like City. They desperately want to win the CL. The CL marks their arrival as a top team and gives them legitimacy. I wonder how many league titles City would trade for a single CL win.

They only have 5 to trade :P

.Barca have lost over 400 million in the past year alone.

wowzer.

The "we should spend the most on transfers because we're the biggest team in the world" thing is just so unbelievably moronic. Very interesting article on the FT site yesterday detailing some of their ownership issues and mishaps... like going in to the meeting with BD to try to buy Dembele at 80m EUR max, and then leaving the meeting 10 mins later blindsided by BD's negotiating team and ultimately paying double that amount!

It's insane.

It all comes back to the ownership model and presidential elections. Nobody is getting elected president of Barca or Real by saying we need to take a pragmatic approach, cutting costs and building for the future. Who gets elected is the one who promises to keep and sign the most superstar players. The pressure from supporters, losing Neymar and their reliance on Messi has resulted in Barca paying out huge fees and bonkers contracts to so many players.

The Neymar sale was a chance for Barca to reset. They received a huge amount of cash that should allowed them to reduce their debts and still make several decent but sensible signings. Instead they spent all of it plus more on a couple of glamour signings, giving them monster contracts and neither have worked out, leaving them in a worse position than before. And they've just followed it up with more expensive, short term signings each transfer window.
