Summer Transfer Window 2021/2022

Arsenal fans are using the young squad as an excuse of the rebuilding that is meant to be happening. What I am trying to say is United was still able to compete even with a very young squad.

So if Palace had an average age similar to United they should be able to compete?

You arent taking into account the fact that United have better players in pretty much every position lmao.

Arsenal have progressively got worse over the years and have continued to plummet after Wenger left. At least he was still able to sign gems every so often.

Their now the biggest spenders this summer and got three players who realistically aren’t going to get them up higher in the table. Their points line is still 58/59.5, so 7th. With the money that it costs to sign players they’re going to need to spend mega money just to even get into the top 4 let alone compete for the title. The clubs they’re trying to leap frog (as in the focus right now) Leicester are ran way better and Spurs are well Spurs, which shows the drop over this past decade.

Their just you’re average middle team now and have been for a while, there kind of a cup team if you will. No fear of relegation and absolutely no chance of the title. Yet half their supporters think they should be up there for the title and I do feel somewhat for them because of the stupidly high season (and general) tickets they have to pay to watch that dross.

You arent taking into account the expectancy of the results though.

Utd are expected to challange for the title year in year out for the most part....Palace should be challenging for top 10 and possibly slightly higher
Umtiti released by Barca. Can see PL clubs going for him.
I would be surprised if anyone touched him from the EPL with his knee issues over the last 2-3 years

Utds cm are 28 and 26

I think you are badly mistaken there - McTominay - who played in CM against Leeds last week is 24, Fred is 28 (and those two also played a large chunk of last season in those places as well).

If you were referring to Pogba, I wouldnt be surprised if like last week, he is played out wide at least until Rashford is fully fit again

Anyway its a futile arguement when Utd for sure (and possibly Arsenal) also have 30 - 33 year olds "in the squad" that rarely if ever play (like Jones, Mata, Matic etc)

Matic has played twice in 2 games for us, including a full start in the second game.

Power cube to Lyon 9.5m fee.
He made himself a bit of a cult hero with a few goals vs Utd and thanks to some memes but ultimaely he wasn't suited to how Klopp wanted to play. In Elliott we've got a player that combines Shaq's ability to pick a pass and do something out of nothing, with the energy and work rate that Klopp requires.

Bit disappointed with the recent buys:
  • 0degaard I don't mind as a player but I don't think that's the most pressing need given with have ESR. He might turn out great but it's a classic Arsenal move of buying another attacking midfielder, you can only play so many at once.
  • Ramsdale on the other hand is a disaster, he's worse than Leno so £24m+addons for a backup keeper is nonsense with our budget. Now maybe it could be that Arteta has doubts about Leno and genuinely thinks Ramsdale could challenge him (which is worrying in itself), but if that's the case, why did we let Martinez go instead of handing him the #1 jersey for last season?
  • Ben White I've no issue with as a player but at £50m you want someone a bit more commanding, I mean we paid £2m plus addons for Holding, Chambers was what £16m maybe? Ben White strikes me as a £25m player not a £50m player.
  • Lokonga / Tavares are more lower tier purchases I'll reserve judgement on.
Think we need to decide what's happening with Torreira, he should be in the squad but Arteta doesn't seem to fancy him so may as well be sold.

Ironically the cheapest buys have looked the best so far. Think there’s definitely a couple of decent ballers in those two.

Rice supposedly holding out on signing a new deal on the basis that he wants a move and considers himself overpriced. Not sure that's the right play, he's got 3 years left on his deal so they don't need to sell him immediately; might be better served signing the new deal so he can line his pockets before driving through a move at a later date. I mean, suppose he sticks on his current package, then WHU sell him in say Jan 2023. That's 18 months of reduced earnings he'll have to live with compared to putting pen to paper now.

Reports coming out that Brighton have met the release fee for Cucurella, a midfielder/lwb from Getafe. I’m not sure I know who he is, but we’re spending that White cash! Could probably do with a striker though :(

Or sign the deal with a release clause, say £60m to a club that has qualified for Champions League, £75m otherwise?

So we've confirmed Brandon Williams on loan for the season, taking our 2nd domestic loan spot. No idea what to expect given he barely played last season, but if he can play left/right back as well as CB/CDM & CF at the same time for us, it'll be handy :cry::)

Good signing and a very versatile player. Did well two seasons back but just couldn't get game time to keep him going.
