Summer Transfer Window 22/23

Everyone loves to twist the media on the United band wagon. Klopp finished 8th in his first season and it took him until his second summer transfer window to start to get the real players he wanted. ETH has been in the job a little over a month. I would be quite happy to finish 8th this season but have a clear direction going forward for the next one.
Why do you think it was his 2nd summer window? His 1st summer window we got Mane/Gini, and Matip signed. Are you getting confused due to Klopp signing in October of 2015?

He didn't get a challenging squad till his second window and was complete for titles in his third window. I am not saying he didn't get some players in the first but it was a proper Klopp team after his second/third window. It was also advantageous for him to sign in October because the pressure would have been a lot less and he could plan effectively for the summer ahead.

It has been obvious that ETH has had little influence to this summer window. All I am trying to point out is to throw ETH under the bus this early is a little silly.

Klopp didnt join at the end of the previous season with a complete pre season and transfer window. Not comparable.

No he signed half way through a season which gave him plenty of time to analyse and plan for his summer window. Coming in as a new manager in the Summer has its draw backs. Especially when you have no structure at the club you are joining and a squad that is a mess.

Are people really comparing ETH to Klopp when he's literally managed one game?

Jesus wept.

I am not comparing him to Klopp as such merely pointing out all the doom and gloom already heading his way from the media. He needs the time to actively rebuild his squad. It took Klopp three windows to realize his vision.

I agree, the usual suspects are all itching to write him off as a fraud when in reality he needs a lot of time - and the board need to sort themselves out.

He didnt sign any 1st team players in his 1st window (winter), he also got to 2 finals in his 1st season in charge without signing any players. By his 2nd summer window he had signed Mane/Gini/Matip/Salah/Robertson and Karius (shudder) as 1st teamers - Could add Ox to that I suppose.

It is a silly comparison (Dortmund Klopp was levels above Ten Hag), especially as you've just sacked off the guy that you brought in to identify areas of squad improvements. I'll doubt you'll get rid of him, even if there's no sign of improvement and you are midtable or worse come the WC - although if Pochettino is still free would the board be tempted?

Isn't is the other way around? ETH has had too much influence, hence why we keep trying to sign his ex players (FdJ and Antony and Lisandro, Arnowtovic etc).

If we had moved on from these players and tried to sign players from elsewhere instead we could have gotten business done I'm sure.

OR we are totally incapable of signing anyone and ETH could see this and used his Ajax connection as a way to get some players through?

The VDB transfer was exactly like this. VDS was an ex club legend and had contacts in the club which made VDB a quick and painless transfer.

I’m not saying he’s a fraud, but the owners and players certainly are, and I don’t think any manager will turn it round unless the Glazers go and half the squads changed

Nothing to do with Utd paying £40m on somebody that couldn't even get in the Everton side? No wonder Ajax paid for his flight to Utd.

Who’s that?

The United recruitment seems to be a total shambles tbh. A mixtures of wishful thinking quick fixes and total head scratchers.

Our problem is not really players that we've bought being poor, it's the reason we've bought them is wrong. We bought Mata then dumped him on the wing, we bought Lukaku to play as a target man, we bought VdB to be backup to Bruno but then tried to make him play exactly the same as Bruno. Unfortunately this is what happens when your owners don't give a **** about winning and they employ a banker who doesn't give a **** about winning to run the club.

"It's the owners fault that a succession of managers have brought **** players, had **** training methods, had **** tactics. We just need another couple of billion to spend on transfers and everything will be rosey'

Van de Beek. He managed a whole 480 minutes of football during his loam spell at Everton. He's now onto his 3rd manager at Utd who isn't picking him - at some point people have to realise that it's probably him at not all the coaches fault.

Bit early to say that 2 games in Baz, VdB even came on in both games. We have no idea who he's going play as the season progresses. He also was barely there under Rangnick (who was dire anyway) and Solskjaer had no idea how to use him. Anyone would have struggled (and still is) in that Everton team, they're probably the only PL team in more of a mess than we are.

Yes, I'm aware he didn't play much under Rangnick, that was my point. Rangnick didn't fancy him, Ole didn't and neither did Lampard. As for ETH, the signs clearly aren't too promising. You'd have thought that having somebody that he's worked with and would know his system would make VDB more likely to feature in the short term and its not like he's being kept out of the side by top class alternatives either. Maybe he's just not very good and the reason why his transfer was easy was because Ajax knew they were getting a great price for him.
