Summer Transfer Window 22/23

I judge players on the amount of cards they get not goals.

But seriously id expect a play of that price in the position he'll be playing to contribute 20 g/a in the league.

Obviously if he doesn't get a TOTS card he won't be good value. But I hope he gets a 4* WF upgrade this year.

And I hope they buff his 57 strength and 69 shot power. Eww

Ajax ripping United a new one. Ridiculous price for someone who appears to be far from world class.

Some would say a gamble(very big one), just above avg stats in a far worse division playing for the richest and best teams for decades, moving to a much harder and physical league. However none of us are ETH, and it's his judgement they must trust!

Crazy amount of money considering his goal scoring stats. He's going to need to hit the ground running or I imagine he'll get a lot of stick.

Interesting Barcelona about to play, FDj doesn;t start for them. Could he be about to sign for someone? or wouldn't he be in the squad at all?

Because we're owned by owners that are incompetent. They clearly didn't want to buy more than a few players this summer and released more money after we lost the first few games. We'll never win until we're rid of them.
The owners cant be blamed for everything. It's not like they've been tight on the purse strings in recent years.

Given how well Malacia and Martinez have started, I'm quite confident ETH knows what he's doing with this signing.

Check the outgoing players again.... there's plenty of budget freed up.

Supposedly Kicker have reported that we're interested in Konrad Laimer from Leipzig. I won't pretend to have noticed him much (if at all) in the few games we've had vs Leipzig but a statto account that I follow did mention him as somebody that's stylistically perfect for how we play and with one year left on his deal it's likely that he's attainable too. If he is somebody we're after then his contract situation probably explains why the deal has been left until late in the day. And he's Austrian so if we sign him then I'm basically an itk as I said we'd sign an Austrian yesterday.

May I ask which account that is as ive seen him mentioned before and i can't remember which account it was.

This isnt who i saw mention him as it seemed like a while ago but this from Dan Kennett :

Triple edit.

Year left on his deal. This looks like a deal we were going to get boxed in January and potentially bringing it forward a year with a modest fee.

Do we know this is actually the case though as ive never known money not to be available for United to spend.
You can quite clearly see our transfer activity ground to a halt after Martinez with multiple journalists reporting ETH wasn't being given money to spend beyond potentially FDJ. After 2 defeats we were suddenly linked with about 20 players in 48 hours, including big bids for Joao Felix, Casemiro, Sommer, Antony and Gakpo. It's pretty clear the Glazers were trying to do the bare minimum, yet again.

Our start being we lost our first 2 games and Martinez getting subbed at half time due to conceding 4 at Brentford?

Jury is still out there but Malacia at least looks more combative than luke Shaw recently.

On Antony: In terms of the transfer, it's very expensive without a doubt, but that's football these days (and Man Utd's poor planning makes it even worse). However, ETH knows the player well, he's familiar with the Man Utd squad now and the league in general, and he clearly thinks Antony can improve his game and become one of the best attackers in the world - let's hope he's right.

I'm asking you, and Robbo and Shamikebab

Put a number on it that you consider 'good' for a 22/23 year old player costing 99m euro.

You're all football fans right? You understand the concept and the excitement?

For me a basically 100m player should be getting 15 goals in all comps

I will indulge you even though it's pointless.

It's difficult to judge based purely on stats alone. Antony may not get many goals or assists, but he may run teams ragged and cause them a lot of problems. That can be a contribution too.

He's not walking into a good squad either, it's full of problems, so he'll likely take longer to settle in compared to Diaz at Liverpool for example. Based on that, if he can get anywhere near Diaz's stats, that would be a good showing - not that I'm expecting that.

That's pretty non committal. The squad is better than 70% of the teams in the EPL.

I think for 99m euro you would expect more than just someone to run teams ragged.

He's basically going to be the 11-12th most expensive player of all time. That brings a bit more expectation than just running about a bit..

The expectations on a player have nothing to do with how much they cost. Are the expectations on Eriksen or Rashford less because they were free? Of course not. We've just signed our first natural right winger since arguably Di Maria. Now hopefully he can form part of a successful attack

Come off it. It's not the only factor that influences the expectations on a player but of course their transfer fee has an impact. A transfer fee a side is willing to pay is often a big indicator to how vital they believe that player will be to their side and therefore the expectation on that player to have a big influence on the side directly link back to their fee.

Liverpool paid huge fees for VVD and Alisson because they believed they would have a big impact on the side and the expectations on them to do so were there. We paid a relatively small fee for Shaqiri because he was needed to pad out the squad and that was the limit to expectations on him.

edit: and answering your Rashford example. The expectations on him are based on the promise he showed when he came into the side. Those expectations have waned as his performance levels have dropped in recent times.

What? Expectations are pretty much aligned to the transfer fee of a player. Its just part of the game and has been for a very long time.

If you buy a player for 10m the expectations are a lotless than if you buy one for 100m its just a fact.

Dan James? Pellestri? Amad Diallo, 3 right wingers there.
