Summer Transfer Window 22/23

So is that actually 100m if we include add-ons that nobody knows about? Bargain.

Where you getting 100m?

That says 85m euros, which translates to £63m/£70m. Still a lot but doesn't seem excessive, if the initial reports of £55m were believed.

All that said, i'm still not sure i see it happening, especially with the wage dispute. I don't really see any reason for him to come, he's a regular player for them and i'd much rather live in Barcelona!

There are people on here who claim to know more than what's published in the news. Haaland didn't cost 85m apparently, so surely the same applies here?

Either figure seems a lot if the player really doesn't want to go to United (and who could blame him).

Not quite the same. City managed to get one of the most in demand players in the world who could have gone to any top club he wanted. They got him for a fee that any top club would be able to afford due to the release clause. The reason people think there is money changing hands behind the scenes is because City are dodgy as hell with their finances and despite City being one of the best teams in the world they seemed to have little issue snapping him up rather cheaply all around with little competition or faff.

This FdJ deal bears little relevance to that.

It's nothing to do with City being dodgy. Haaland and his agent negotiated a release clause that gave them huge leverage with potential buyers. They knew the fee City (or whoever) had to pay Dortmund was a fraction of his true value, which enabled them to negotiate big fees for the player, his agent, his dad and pretty much anybody that said they knew him.

It's no different to when a player joins a club on a bosman - a sizeable chunk of the money the buying club has saved by not paying a transfer fee ends up going to the player and his representatives.

Doesn't that all still count towards FFP? Thats where plenty of people think that City might be being dodgy, even ignoring their sponsorship deals that make zero sense.

Any weight to these rumours that Liverpool are trying to buy Nunes? Or just his agent trying to make someone make a bid for him (supposedly a few big clubs looking at him), would be nice to get another midfielder despite Klopp saying we werent buying anyone. Not seen anything of him but apparently he's pretty pacey and plays a mean through ball and doesnt hurt to have another Brazilian in the team :)

Yes, it all counts towards FFP.

There's plenty of things City have done which are more than a bit questionable re FFP but the structure of the Haaland deal isn't one of them and would have been the same had he joined Utd, Real or whoever else.

Re City and FFP in general, they've ridden out the storm on that. Yes, they've got a number of inflated commercial deals but they're consistently competing at the highest level with clubs generating similar values to them so it's difficult for the PL or UEFA to massively discount these but crucially now, because they bought well in previous years, they're now able to sell well. They're not having to keep loads of expensive unwanted players, they're now selling surplus players for big fees. Because of the way transfers recorded from an accounting point of view, from the transfers City have so far made this season, they'll actually show an overall profit of £50m+ on this seasons accounts.

Zinchenko is a very decent player but it always worries me when a manger relies to heavily on his old club/players for signings. Isn’t he also a bit dodgy defending, don’t think I’ve ever seen him have a good game defensively.

While he has a similar versatility (and height) to Martinez, at least the latter is solid defensively.

They play different positions for a start….

I've seen a few people tweet about it, seems to come from 1 woman tweeting about Chelsea being favourites to sign him and we're supposedly very keen on him.

Would be a bit wierd seeing as I keep seeing Klopp quotes raving about Bellingham.

So if FDJ moves to Utd, he has to kiss goodbye to his €17m unpaid wages?

Currently unclear. Perhaps some sort of compromise can be reached.

Barca are treating him like dirt though, just so they can buy more shiny new players to impress their fans.

Still, I hope it will benefit us in the end.

Our interest in Martinez was as a LB, where Zinchenko usually plays. Both are capable of covering in Midfield so I’m assuming that’s the thinking behind the rumours. Aware Martinez is a CB but with Saliba coming back there’s no room for him to play there.
