Summer Transfer Window 22/23

Won't it be visible on City's accounts?

I appreciate the buy out clause may impact things in this case. But why aren't we assuming that other transfers also have these hidden costs?
These additional fees will be on City's accounts. They won't however, just like transfer fees and player wages, be itemised though.

And other transfers absolutely will have these extra costs too however they're not likely to be nearly as significant as in Haaland's case because of the release clause.

Barca are a ******* disgrace. I genuinely hope they go under.

Juventus apparently want Gabriel for £50m. Where are they getting it from? They’re hundreds of millions in debt too. Why wont FIFA do anything about this?

Imagine if the rule was your can't buy players etc if you have a certain amount of debt, like a debt ceiling. I don't know what the FFP rules are, but some of these deals are an absolute joke!

Are we forgetting how Arsenal got rid of Gunnersaurus just to sign Willian the other year?

On a more serious note, while Barca might be the poster boy for extravagant spending, there are plenty of PL clubs spending what they don't have too. Arsenal for example had over £200m cash in the bank and a net transfer debt of £30m odd in 2018, as of their accounts 12 months ago their cash has dropped to £19m and net transfer debt has increased to £100m. They've spent all their cash and are funding these signings with debt. Spurs are another who owe other clubs £100m+ with next to nothing owed to them.

All clubs operate with debt i am aware of that, but there needs to be a ceiling for the clubs own good as well as players and the football world in general. Our £100m debt is a lot different to Barca’s £1.3bn! The only way they’ll get out of that is with a rich Arab.

The players themselves are a bit mental moving there too. There’s some doubt they can even be registered at present and they owe millions in unpaid wages. Surely the warning signs are there.

Lisandro Martinez is done now pending formal confirmation. He looks very good, particularly on the ball, and has done well for Ajax in the CL against the likes of Dortmund (Haaland), despite his size.

It looks like Ronaldo may end up staying now as most clubs can't/won't sign him... I was hoping he would go really, but if he's focused and the team is playing well he will no doubt be able to make a big contribution. ETH won't play him if he's causing the team problems.

The £100m figure is just the net figure for what Arsenal owe to other clubs for transfers. If you want to look at total debt, once you take into account the stadium debt that Kroenke refinanced and the bank of england loan (now Barclays?), Arsenal's total debt won't be far off £500m.

My point was simply that ridiculous spending isn't limited to just Barca. You only have to look at your own club who 2 years ago were asking players to take pay cuts all while signing new players and as above, have burned through £200m of cash and increased debts by another £200m odd.

Football is a bonkers industry where you need to spend to be successful, even when you can't afford to.

Barca are definitely the most extreme, I can't think of other clubs that are signing players they can't even register. Or that are forcing players to take extreme paycuts or be forced out of the club, even badmouthing them in the press to get fans to turn against them.

Barca do seem to be the most extreme example though, unless I've misunderstood.
Absolutely they are but it does feel like some people are oblivious to what's going on with some clubs here though.

As above, Barca are undoubtedly the most extreme example but the issue with player registrations isn't because Barca are financially worse off than x or y in the PL, it's because La Liga have far stricter financial controls than we have in the PL.

Barca are no longer able to keep borrowing as they did in previous years and as what some PL clubs are starting to do now.

Exactly If Derby County had won that playoff final against Villa the roles could have been reversed as Villa spent crazy amounts to get promoted. Such a fine line.

You have an awful lot of faith in the club and in Ronaldo.

The man has an ego that could fill a stadium on its own. Do you really think that he will take well to being benched or used as a bit part player. I would wager that the owners will step in and "encourage" EtH to play him as well.

If they do get involved he should tell them to **** off and sack him if they want someone to play that he doesn't want to.

This is why it was such a fantastically stupid idea to bring him back. Massive wages, massive ego, requires the team to revolve around him and if it didn't go perfectly then you are stuck with him.

Wouldn't surprise me if we extended his stay if he does stick around this year. Disneyland and all that.
