Summer Transfer Window 22/23

You saw with Rangnick that simply having a manager with a clear vision isn't enough when the players available to him either couldn't or wouldn't buy into that vision. A number of those players have left this summer but there's still the big Ronaldo issue that has the potential to undermine what ETH wants to do.

Talk of him leaving seems to have died down in recent days but I honestly believe it will be a mistake from Utd to keep him next season. It's not just the question marks over whether he can fit into the way ETH wants to play but all the baggage that he comes with. Getting the younger players, like Rashford and Sancho to buy into what ETH wants them to do is far easier when you don't have Ronaldo undermining his decisions by throwing a strop because he's been subbed off or picking up a phantom injury when he's told he's going to be a sub.
How much would you try and impress your manager at your work if you knew he wouldn't be your Manager any more in 6 months time and you knew that you'd be paid the exact same amount regardless? That was the thought process of United players when Rangnick took over and it was announced he'd only be Manager until the end of the saeason.

If I was playing a sport I love and my enjoyment of said sport was directly related to how my team performs I would put in quite a lot of effort. If I was getting paid £250k/week to do anything I would probably put in the effort.

But then a new manager comes in and all your effort was for naught? I can see your point of view as well though.

You have an awful lot of faith in the club and in Ronaldo.

The man has an ego that could fill a stadium on its own. Do you really think that he will take well to being benched or used as a bit part player. I would wager that the owners will step in and "encourage" EtH to play him as well.

If they do get involved he should tell them to **** off and sack him if they want someone to play that he doesn't want to.

This is why it was such a fantastically stupid idea to bring him back. Massive wages, massive ego, requires the team to revolve around him and if it didn't go perfectly then you are stuck with him.

Wouldn't surprise me if we extended his stay if he does stick around this year. Disneyland and all that.

I don't really have much faith in them. However, I do hope Ten Hag was clear when he joined that he needs full autonomy over footballing decisions and no player is bigger than the team. Woodward is also gone now.

Ten Hag played Haller up front for Ajax, Ronaldo should be able to play that sort of role without too much trouble. At least in theory.

Just coming back to Frenkie as well - I am 100% sure Ten Hag will have spoken to him about joining, perhaps on multiple occasions, they know each other quite well.

We would not be persisting trying to sign him if he'd told ETH that he won't join and flat out refuses to leave Barca. I think if they can come to some sort of agreement on the deferred wages, it'll get done. I do fear it dragging on much longer though as it's painful to watch.

De Jong has been named in the squad for the American tour, allegedly One post on Twitter shows De Jong on a plane, whether it’s today or 6 months ago I cannot be sure

Interesting earlier Phil Kitromilidis saying that FDJ has his heart set on staying in Barca and doesn't wanna leave. Can't believe ETH or United would still pursue though if that was the case.

Why is it so hard to understand he would state that to Barca, when they owe him 17 million but then have his people tell United he's interested if it get's sorted one way or another. He has all the power. The team want rid of him, yet they owe him money and he has a place to go.

United are still chasing the deal because clearly they have been told he's open to a move if the terms are right and he gets what he's owed.

I think FDJ is playing the situation perfect and saying as little as he needs to. Tight lipped and get that awful club to cough up then he can go.

Exactly. I don't know if he will move but this is exactly how a professional should act while his future is being sorted behind the scenes. No on can accuse him of doing anything wrong on either side of this.

If he starts playing on their tour I would be slightly concerned because most clubs don't risk high value assets they are about to sell but who knows how this will shake out.
