Summer Transfer Window 23/24

Hopefully Henderson and Maguire will be sold for about £50m+ along with a few other sales raising around £80m. If we do sell a few more players I imagine we will bring in another midfielder.
Amrabat sounds close, sounds like he really wants to join as well. That would be some signing for reported ~30m

Can't help but feel like we have massively overpaid here.

If he's fit and his ACL injury hasn't hampered him, I think that's good value in the current market. He looked really special before his injury.

On Amrabat, I'm not sure what to make of him. He looked good during the world cup (although I thought Ounahi looked better), but I'm always sceptical of players who have a good world cup, but who then don't have multiple big clubs in for them. What are teams saying in Amrabat that mean they're not going for him, especially at what appears to be a reasonably low price?

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by him, he'll give great squad depth for a busy upcoming campaign and I suspect he'll thrive alongside someone like Trippier to learn from.

Sad to see him leave Southampton really but glad to see we're not prepared to get kicked in the nuts on our player valuations just because we got relegated (edit - remember he had three years left on his contract, you're not going to be seeing a 'next summer he'll be on a free' type deals here).

I honestly have zero club about how good he is.
As has been said, he stood out in the World Cup with a few good performances. But also, as with a lot of ten hags signings, they were at Utrecht together for a year or 2 earlier in their careers, so I’m sure he knows what sort of character/player he is. We shall see

Havent United got Amrabat level at the club already. Id of thought they'd be looking for more of a defensive/ combative midfielder really. I dont see how he improves United personally.

sanchez had 2 years left on his contract, raya is out of contract avail for free end of this season

its hardly the same scenario
Sanchez isn't as good as Raya, by a long shot. He's also massively out of favour at Brighton and they want rid of him. We'd love to Raya to stay, so yes it is a different scenario.

The out of contract at the end of the season thing means different things to different clubs. To Arsenal it means they think they can get him on the cheap, for us it's an opportunity not to get shoved around.

This is the point that's not occurred to Arsenal fans yet seeing as they all think we should take a low offer - this is our first big sale since we got promoted. We only get one chance to set our stall out as a selling club in the Premier League. We value him at £40m. Accepting a cut price offer is giving out the message to any other clubs interested in our players that we can be pushed around on future transfers.

What's the better scenario - sell him half price for £20m because he's got a year left, way below our own valuation. But then have that transfer impact all our other big sales from now on. Or to reject it, miss out on £20m, keep one of the best keepers in the league for another season to provide competition and ensure we get top dollar for future sales? The latter sees us lose £20m in the short term but make loads more in the long run. We can afford to lose £20m, now we're on Prem revenues, if it means higher transfer fees in the future.

This time next summer we'll be getting bids for Ivan Toney, whilst the club are also expecting big interest in Mbuemo and Hickey. Three very valuable players. Best to face next summer in a strong transfer negotiating position with other teams knowing we won't get pushed around, than to sell Raya on the cheap. That's the club's position on it. Buy early, sell late.

Lol Arsenal only bidding £20m for Raya when a lesser keeper in Sanchez just gone for £25m
Unfortunately this is the problem with signing your replacement first. Everyone knows you have to sell or lose him for free in 12 months. When several other clubs have bought goalkeepers this summer and they've all moved on to other targets you might just be asking too much.

you might just be asking too much.
Too much is relative if we're happy to lose him on a free next summer. Buying his replacement first puts us in a better position than a worst one as we can be patient, and if we don't get something that matches our value then so be it. We don't really want to sell him and are comfortable not doing so.

We actually signed his replacement last summer in Strakosha, but he's not settled well, so we've had to go out and buy Flekken. We always try to buy a year early - Schade for Toney, Collins for Mee, and hopefully Johnson for Mbuemo.
