Summer Transfer Window 23/24

He's only worth what a club is willing to pay. Insane really but numbers of 70-100 mill seem to be getting more more frequent. He does have English tax though.

It’s such a weird situation we are in.

He’s not worth that to the buying club but they’re desperate. He’s worth that to the selling club because of TV money. Similar to Zaha at C.P

I think people should just stop arguing about whether a player was worth the money as soon as they sign.

This is a results business. I only think you can judge a players value once they are finished.

Rice is a perfect example. If we just mooch along with top 4 or 5 finishes, then we’ve overpaid, but if he helps us to a premier league trophy or 2, a few cups and maybe even a European cup, then he’s been worth every penny

At end of day Arsenal needed an established premier league midfielder, with the likes of Xhaka, Partey potentially leaving it was important to get someone like Rice in. He is also still young, England International, and potentially a future Arsenal captain. 105m is a lot, but then Arsenal could have paid that for some other player in the Spanish/German leagues or whatever and he turns out gash playing in the Premier league, bit like players of the past that didn't cut it over here, for example Pepe (72m).
Partey cost 45m and he hasn't exactly been outstanding, had his good games, but he is confidence player, he was really poor towards end of season.

At least we know Rice can cut it in this league. Excellent signing I say, hopefully many good years ahead for him.

Time of the month?

If you really want to know Man City will win the league for the next 5 years at a canter (like last season) and then you'll have Newcastle challenge them - throw in man Utd in 3 seasons time if they get bought out by the Oil state.
It’s not always as simple as that. Newcastle may be oil rich, but they still have to work within their budgets. And just buying top players doesn’t always guarantee success. Football is a lot more complicated than that.

Pretty much this. There be the different team that ‘challenge’ them (city). Liverpool, Utd and Arsenal have all finished runners up in recent years.

Would be massively different if Newcastle are allowed to spend money but obviously they need to spend it correctly but they’ll be able to take punts on £100m players and let them take a year to establish themselves like what Grealish done as the money is irrelevant to them as well.

The rest can’t do that.

Who knows how Chelsea under Poch are going to get on.

Sortbywagebill.

It’s almost bang on, every single year.

Add in massive squads, DoF, training grounds etc it’s a different ball game. City are elite both on and off the pitch.

Leicester have a better training ground than Utd for example.

I agree with this. Gone are the days where you can just bang together 11 expensive players and succeed. Teams identify with such precision exactly what they need, and the best teams are usually the ones who are the best at identifying their needs and acquiring those players regardless of cost. You could easily have argued when we bought them that Liverpool overpaid for VVD and Alisson, but nobody would say that a season or two later.

If Rice is what Arteta and Edu have identified as the player Arsenal need to go to the next level (their VVD equivalent), then he's basically worth whatever they pay for him. The £100m question is whether Arteta and Edu are correct.
