Superdry - how warm are their coats??

If you want to wear a thin jacket and claim you warm enough then go a head. man up am i right? In my opinion, personally, i find thin jackets and jackets that don't have a high collar and require a scarf do not keep me warm enough.

Most of the fashion brands are thin and low quality for what you get. Unless you spend lots of money..

I live in a country around twice as cold as the UK during the depths of Winter, and I am a reasonably thin guy. If I say you can buy warm jackets from fashion brands, in colder conditions than the UK, then it's true, because I own a couple. When you move out of a mild climate then let me know.

I have a coat like this http://www.marksandspencer.com/pure-wool-checked-coat/p/p22229152 and i find it worthless. It may look smart but it is does nothing when its cold but get in the way

That's not even the type of coat the OP is talking about you numpty, it's basically a business-style coat!

In the uk weather, most of the time all you really need is something waterproof and wind resistant, it just doesn't get that cold.

This. I only ever wear a jumper/hoody and then possibly a waterproof shell over the top if needed. The north face Hyvent stuff is so crap breathability wise that you'll no doubt be roasting anyway.

Even if I was in -20 I still wouldn't wear that Canadian goose down jacket. That thing is overkill for astronauts.

Indeed I'm very thankful I picked a winter coat that shrugs off deluges regardless of its thermal performance (which happens to be good).

Canada Goose generally are quite comfortable in not extreme colds as well - wouldn't want to wear one say a month back or so when it was milder but days like today ~7-8C you shouldn't have too many problems with them being "overkill" (depends a bit on the model).

Just pay a bit more and get a decent insulated jacket.

I bought an insulated, waterproof Berghaus and it does a splendid job. £110 squid I think it was.

Superdry is for Gayers.

I get way too hot in insulated coats. It's all about the layers, brah.

Been looking for a nice warm winter coat so been reading this thread with interest. I like the Canada Goose and Jack Wolfskin suggestions. I like their longer parkas.

The only problem is the CG one I like seems tough to get in this country in my size. I wouldn't want to buy one without trying it on first.

You don't need a CG in this climate. It's overkill.

I just find Superdry things to be fugly, as well as doubting their performance for the price. I have a few Rab coats for varying levels of cold from when I lived in Finland, then a few Berghaus Gore Tex shells. They cost a bit more, but my Rab stuff is actually warm (as well as packing down into tiny pouches), then my Berghaus stuff is actually waterproof... that's what matters to me!

Any recommendations? I need a new waterproof.

Folks have already mentioned a few earlier Nix. Heavy padded = stuff like Berghaus, for lighter but windproof/waterproof materials and thin fleece lined internals look at Tog24/Musto/Mountain Warehouse/North face etc.
