Superdry - how warm are their coats??

I'd say a little on the large size. I'm 6'3" with stumpy legs and they tend to be a little bit long on the body but fit well on the arms.

Which jacket are you looking at?

Yeah, sorry should have quoted. I've a Rab Neutrino jacket, so a down one like the Microlight you're after. It's quite long on me and, as I say, I've a long body. By the look of it, it's similar to mine and is a fair bit longer at the back for when you sit down.

Nice choice!

Thanks

Ill prob go for the small then, im 5"8.

Which size did you go for?

I do have a north face vest which is a small and that fits nice so small should be good.

Thanks for the advice :)

As as brand they are overrated, you can get a bench coat that looks better, cheaper and warmer.

I was only explaining to my niece'so boyfriend that GAP was the superdry of the 90s and he couldn't believe me, well at least GAP clothes didn't make ladies look like little boys.

For true warm and street cred, go for the North Face..

I have a Superdry Patrol Jacket HD and its very thick and warm. Very well made too, like most SUperdry stuff I have seen.

Thanks

I'm a large, I believe it's supposed to be snug but not tight, so it traps warm air but isn't billowing.

Perfect weather for one this week.

Not very warm

My advice with coats is layers.

Get a quality water proof outer shell (I personally have a Rab Latok Alpine) http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/rab-latok-alpine-mens-waterproof-jacket-p105299

Something like this will do most of the time then when its as cold as it is now throw on a microfleece or something underneath.

I have a Marmot windshirt i wear under the rab for a bit of extra warmth without being baking hot - http://marmot.com/products/details/driclime-windshirt

When skiing I have -

Base layer, breathable and thin
Mid - Rab PS zip top (stretch fleece type material - http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/rab-powerstrech-mens-zip-top-p131064)
Inner coat - Marmot windshirt
Outer coat - Rab Latok

Its worse being too warm than too cold, especially if you walk around a lot or exercise. If you are going to be sitting around in -15c or walking in -30c weather get something like a North Face McMurdo or Canada Goose Expedition

I have had my jack wolfskin jacket bought for about £150 or so for 3 years now. Looking to buy another jacket and don't see anything as good as jack wolfskin. I like that it can be worn without the fleece the only thing i don't like is the use of velcro.

If you want a warm jacket you need to go to blacks or cotsworld or similar. Just stay away from northface as over priced imo for what you get.

He's not in the French alps, layering isnt so important in a generally mild climate like the UK unless you are going hiking in Winter.

Plenty of fashion brands offer warm jackets for the kind of casual use we see in England.

Yes exactly, I have a Rab Latok too but I only wear it when skiing or walking!

Plus your suggested combo is 4x more expensive than the original jacket suggestion

I feel slightly ill that someone found that napapijri skidoo for £60, its £250 and im getting it from the Mrs for Xmas!

Unfortunately some people are going way overboard with the specifications in order to preach some knowledge.

I live in a country 3x colder than the UK in Winter, so I think I have some experience in this area. A good warm "fashion" jacket, merino jumper, gloves, and (optional, as I don't wear hats) a hat will cover you in 99% of casual situations while out shopping etc, while still allowing you to not look like you are going rambling.

If you are going hiking or planning on staying out constantly exposed to the weather all day then yes, warmer and more expensive gear makes sense. Otherwise, no need to spend a fortune for so short a period of casual domestic use.
