Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Last time I tried NO it was full of sugar and caffeine in pretty high amounts! Bring on the post gym crash...

I'm quite happy to eat a few meals like that but thats more just cooked food as opposed to cooking a meal if that makes any sense.
I was hoping to see if people knew of high protien ingredients like lentals, chick peas and eggs with which to cook with.
But not to worry, will check out some of the fighting forums as I know some fighters have cut meat out and report feeling faster/stronger.
I can guarantee that this bit is nonsense.

What they're noticing is probably due to an increase in veg consumption. Nothing in meat will slow you down or make you slower, quite the contrary, in fact.

If you just need to add protein to your meals and find doing what Cristian suggested impractical (although that's what I'd do), protein supplements would be a good alternative. You'll find it very hard to get enough protein just veg, and you'll need to be eating 4-5 eggs in a sitting.

To be fair beta alanine and creatine don't have any taste. AAKG and citruline malate must be quite rank though. Don't think they are as bad as BCAA though and that can be easily masked with orange squash.
just add some no sugar squash and you'll be fine.
and end up at less than half price. ;)

there is a lot of hassle in creating your own, if you have the time and patience go ahead, but it will taste rank, probably need double strength diluting juice to help you.

If it's cheaper i can deal with the hassle.

Although after working it out it doesn't seem to be any cheaper. Based on Neurocore which is the only one that really says how much of each ingredient is included, which is 45-55p/serving, buying seperately from MP it's about 45 aswell. And that's with only beta-alanine, caffeine, creatine and citrulline.

Not to mention i don't know how it will affect me, need to try a sample tbh. (HINT HINT ANYONE? :p) I had 150mg caffeine today before my workout and didnt notice any effect, gonna try more tomorrow.

edit: i think i just got royally tricked by supplement company marketing :D :( brb editing my maths

edit2: yep i was taking the neurocore stats as a 1 serving amount when actually its for 3 scoops. so for the 3 scoop serving its more like £1.20 - making the self mix less than half the price.

looks like my christmas list is going to be a huge MP order :p Might see if i can get my brother to sign up for an account using my refferal to get it all cheaper assuming my home address isnt registered to my account at all

Some protein prices are laughable these days, damned price increases . Probably why Im going for Pea Protein on my next delivery, will have to man up and get used to the flavour though!

everything is going up in price, i remember a few years ago smirnoff 1 litre was £10 at christmas deals in supermarkets. it's now £13 in the deals. normal price used to be around £15, now it's nearer the £20 mark.

this is life, some peoples wages 50 years ago were like £2 a week.

i pay roughly £132 for 9.2 kg of myofusion, and im happy to do so because it tastes amazing and is a protein blend.

branded proteins haven't changed in price at all i think over the past year.

i also honestly believe we dont need as much protein as these companies suggest you need. i reckon you only need 20-30g per day maximum. unless your riding a bicycle.

i think drinking a shake makes zero difference, if your eating well.

They are the same thing only 1 has some flavoring in, you expect me to consider it 'fair' that even with 25% off i still pay £20 for some chocolate flavor!?

Well yeah, the difference between flavoured and unflavoured is ridiculous, but if you don't like it don't buy it (like me). Was simply pointing out the offer because i know a lot of people in here buy flavoured.

Does anyone know of any supplements to help with muscle repair? I damaged my back somehow and cant do weights for a month (depending on how well it heals). So far, Im going for:

Glutamine
Fish oils (already got)
BCAA
Creatine
Oh, and plenty of rest!

I basically want little muscle wastage as possible while im away from training.

Just stick with a high protein diet :)

You're going to lose some size, but if you stick with a decent diet and supplement with some BCAAs (I wouldn't even bother with the rest :)) then you'll slow the process down

Not really a supplement as such, but a big recommendation to you guys...

Apple Cider Vinegar, has to be the organic stuff, I get mine frm Holland and Barrett. It's brilliant stuff, it's a natural thermogenic, helps protein digestion and helps release iron from foods. Also claims to clear up your skin and help with acne, and i have to admit, I suffer from spotty shoulders, and since supplementing with this, it has cleared up drastically. Its an absolutely brilliant little addition to your diet and it's dirt cheap

I take 3tbsp before every other meal, it tastes foul, probably the worst thing you'll ever taste, but dilute it with water and it helps

Give it a try :)

Don't get the tablets, waste of time! The dosages are so low and like you say, expensive.

That's the stuff I use. I buy 2 bottles at a time and that lasts the week
