Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Well got my Recovery XS mixed with protein to drink a bit. Pity im running out of the Chocolate Smooth :(. First time using it, so debating whether to add it in with my next quartely shop.

:D

We've (I know I certainly have) posted a lot about insulin responses and the anabolic state it puts your body in, and the fact it shuttles nutrients around ;)

Delvis - YOU MUST TRY HARDER! :p

So glad i put my order through with MP. i ordered 5kg of dextrose so will add it into my post workout shake . Wasnt in this morning but delivery in under 14 hours from order - quite impressive

Also bought one of their bundles for 19.99 - reviewing for a friend. read on the facebook page that it will continue while the advert is broadcasted on sky which i think has 2 weeks run time left

Don't use any milk for PWO

Any form of dairy is slow digesting

If you want a simple cheap PWO, 30g whey, 50g dextrose...BOOM! job done

I was never that bothered with fast carbs post-workout, and trying to get maximum rapid uptake post-workout. I always take pre-work out shakes. If you've already digested the protein and have the amino acids in your circulation during and after training, you can't get the amino acids to your muscles any faster than that.

Pre-workout I take a shake with: 2 whey scoops, nesquik, creatine, instant coffee. Usually in milk, but water if dieting.

Post workout I eat a good whole food meal.

Trouble is, whole food takes a lot longer to digest. Unless you eat the second you finish your workout, I don't think it's the best choice. Certainly not a bad one, but not one I'd be comfortable sticking too

And the science behind fast acting carbs and insulin spikes is pretty sound, so it's the reason why any post workout shake on the market has a particular kind of carb in it. And I agree if you use an intra workout supplement or use BCAAs right before your workout, it's probably ok, but most people don't, and I'd still argue it's beneficial to take that protein/carb mix post workout even then

Finally, with the amount of sugar in Nesquick, you've got yourself a pretty decent post work out shake anyway ;) minus the milk
