Supplements the debate/discussion thread

LOL LOL!!!! I have an MP shaker actually that I got at an expo. Their products are fine, they have to be - such a big company would need rigorous testing etc... I guess that's why I don't like them, because they're so big?

IT's stupid. Completely stupid. :p

Ya weirdo :p

I just prefer to buy supps from a company I know more about and have a closer affiliation to - and one that offers things more towards my interests.

It is irrational, as I said, but I've just never been a fan of MP when there are much better alternatives out there.

FF the Hipster? o.O

kd

Not really - I just don't think their products are premium - but that's just an irrational unfounded belief. Besides, I don't use supps enough for it to be really a major condemnation anyway! :)

I'm sure I saw they had them on offer last week 2000 for £50!!

Do you still go on their forums FF?

I pop in from time to time, but not regularly anymore it sort of died.
I do know they are trying to secure a new supplier for their protein powders - so hopefully they'll be back up and running soon. :)

They still do some products that other places don't come close to., fish oils being one of them. ZMA if you're interested in ZMA is the strongest out there. As well as doing other rarer amino acids for a good price.

Oh if anyone wants Rhodiola Rosea, you can get it from bulkpowders which is a whopping 4% rosavins, but it isn't in capsules. If you do want it in caps, these guys do a 3% version http://www.echemist.co.uk/p-viridian-maximum-potency-rhodiola-rosea-root-veg-caps - which actually isn't too bad if you don't want to mess around with measuring things.

You can tell I've been doing some research and searching this evening can't you? :D :D :D

I stopped going on there, they went all weird and paranoid.... very strange!

The last batch of Rhodiola I bought from bulkpowders. I would take their claim of being 4% with a pinch of salt but it's ok :)

Yeah it just went dead and I had other priorities in my life. It's still good for a bit of reference, a LOT of knowledge in there. :)

Yeah I take most of the %ages with a pinch of salt, however as long as there are at least some rosavins present (unlike a lot of RR you can buy) then it'll have it's adaptogenic effect. :)

who had theproteinworks referal?

no referral codes

Several people, Lie and FF have one in their posts. LiE posted recently not long ago as well I believe.

FF, any reason to actually take RR? Should I really worry about not supplementing anything like this? I find it funny (for want of a better word) that I don't supplement in this manner, should I actually look in to it or what? :p

You don't need to worry about not supplementing it. I just get on with it really well. It's a good anti depressant, stress alleviating, mood boosting, anti fatigue supplement - which is something I suffer a lot with. As such I find this takes the edge off - it's natural, it's not addictive, and I feel a lot better when I take it. :)

A good study on it's anti fatigue for stress related effects here: http://www.curador.net/index_fr/rosea/Darbinyan.pdf

Is your aim to build mass and muscle?

The benefit of taking a liquid protein shake straight after a workout is that your muscles are getting fed as quickly as possible. After workout your muscles continue to break down because you've used most of your Glycogen stores whilst working. Taking the shake stops the breakdown and stimulates muscle repair and growth. So yes, if your aim is muscle growth, continue to take the protein shake straight after workout :)

Myth. The "window of opportunity" is much larger than people think. And to be honest, eating within minutes of a workout actually is less efficient than waiting a while.

Your body does start to work towards being catabolic after a strenuous workout - but your body will not be in a catabolic state for many many hours. Your body will respond to nutrition for up to 24hrs after a work out. It's been researched that taking a shake or food within minutes of finishing your workout is less efficient/effective for protein synthesis as leaving it for up to an hour after training.

Which is an unsurprising fact that doesn't really answer the issue that was first brought up...

However, the information posted above appears to have answered yes to the following instead

It did answer the question, and I've explain the science behind it many times.

Go and spend your money on shakes, and eat when the **** you want. I'm just trying to help. Take it or leave it, really doesn't bother me. :)

Stating that your body will benefit from nutrients consumed up to 24hrs after a workout isn't answering the yes/no question of "should I take my supplement straight after a work out"... and forgive me for not willing to trawl through the plethora of "brah" and "mirin" posts for your scientific explanations :p moody.

I answered. I said it wasn't necessary to eat straight away after a workout. I thought it was pretty straightforward. :) I'm not one of the "brah" brigade :p

I'm not moody, just straight to the point. **** :p

Looks like I need to get more dextrose and double my dose!

In the meantime I'm having hell of a bother with MP. Still haven't dispatched my fish oils which have been going in and out of stock, ordered them on the 1st and they were in stock! Tried phoning on Friday afternoon and gave up after 15+ mins on hold... Sent a ticket on Sunday which should have been replied to in 1 working day. I then tried phoning on Monday afternoon and gave up after 20+ mins on hold!! I'm sick of it and when I get through I'll be canceling it and telling them I'm not using them again.

Anybody know where you can pick up Omega 3 with a similar EPA/DHA content as the Supers which MP sell?

BSD's Super Omega 3s are among the best out there with really good ratios.

BSD112 if you're interested.
