Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Ugh. Those "wellman" radio adverts - "vitamins and supplement may help those with a nutritionally inadequate diet". How about, sort out your diet so it isn't nutritionally inadequate?!

Bought some supplements for BIL2B's wife from TPW and I have to say the service was good, the ratios and from what I can see the supplement sourcing and quality seems to be good. This is basically what BSD and MP should have been. I've never been a proponent of MP, just found their supplements just average in terms of quality, but since BSD seems to have gone AWOL TPW is filling that gap nicely - I will get some friends of mine who are biochemists to do some analysis on some of their supps and compare it to BSD's sometime in the new year.

Yeah I'd be happy to give it a go. It's just a ratio of bodyweight per supplement - I put it through just some basic stats formulae (anyone else here a Lean Six Sigma person??).

It also depends on what people's goals are and how people react to certain compounds etc... To be honest I REALLY like the fact that you can make your own mix - it's SO much cheaper.

The only issue with this sort of thing of course is that every scoop is different and will have different concentrations - it's down to something called granular convection and fluid dynamics. Nothing I can do about that other than giving the powder a shake before scooping - but not in a linear motion (like tapping the edge of a jar to level some salt or whatever), i.e. shaking it randomly is more effective to reach 95% confidence in maximum dispersion. However, we're getting onto really anal stuff that I worry too much about :p

Yes I'm a geek. :o

The Proteing Works site looks very good, im tempted to drink my other protein as quickly as possible so i can try this new stuff:D

FF if you were gonna help some of us make our own formula what would you need to know about us?

Weight basically and goals and whether you're looking for PWO / Mass gaining. BF% helps but not essential.

It's quite ironic considering I'm not a big supplement proponent or user! :p

All this PWO magic window is a marketing gimmick. Over the course of 24 hours after a workout does it really make any difference what protein you use? or if the amino's get into your boodstream 13.45 mins quicker? Maybe if you're a huge 300lb juiced up pro bodybuilder when 0.5% can make a difference but for most people...?

Also there's arguements against highly processed proteins, are you 100% sure that expensive protein you're paying for is even good for you?

Rhodiola Rosea has a stimulant effect and will affect your sleep taking it late in the day. I didn't realize this at first and spent nearly 2 months having restless nights doh! If it's not doing then it's poor quality and you don't need to worry. Rhodiola Rosea is arguably my No.1 rated supplement, it's fantastic and some of the side effects are a bonus.

Lets just say taking 500mg an hour before bed will have the missus making you breakfast in bed and calling you stallion baby! ;):D

Couldn't agree more - but people have blinkers on and listen to the broscience.

I haven't tried the Biotin super strength, have you had these FF? Do you rate them? I don't think much of their over-hyped products but that one does look interesting!

Strongest I've used is 4%

Not tried that particular brand - I just remember finding it. I don't think 15% is truthful - but who knows?

I prefer it in pill form as it tastes rank :p

ZMA 100 Tabs £14.99
Vitamin B-6 22.5mg
Magnesium 675mg
Zinc 45 mg

Omega 3's 100 £7.99
1000mg softgel
330mg EPA 220mg DHA

Best IMO

Agreed. Although they haven't got any protein at the moment - they are scoping out new protein sources owing to the price changes, and because they look for high quality they're not just going with anything. I hope they'll find a supplier soon as my yearly 2.5kg is starting to get low!

I do like BSD's quality - but I will give TPW a go when i've run out.

No idea mate - never tried that brand, and 15% is hard to believe - I think 4% is far more realistic. I just prefer it in caps, as powder tastes unpleasant.

5 a day though? Super O3s you only really need to take 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening with food - no point in taking them on an empty stomach, unless you already eat a lot of oily fish - for example I seldom take them in the morning as I usually have mackerel for brekkie.
