Supplements the debate/discussion thread

I smell all of my food whether it's in date or not. One of the biggest reasons, evolutionarily speaking, for having senses is to tell us when food is off or not. Saying that, people eat casu marzu ffs. lol

It smells okay, and it is not yellow, is there anything in it that could cause harm?
personally i would have a shake and if i dont get belly ache consider it fine
looking on google unless it smells rank it should be fine but may have lost some of its potency

meh i missed the maxiraw flapjacks offer :(

guess i will have to settle for 2.5kg of choclate cookies from BP instead of stock piling for ww3 lol

This + Parmesan cheese as an extra oddity to that :)

I have absolutely no faith in sell/use by dates on foods and it really winds me up when people throw away perfectly good food just because the sell/use by date was yesterday.

Ordered 2.5kg of Whey and 2x1.8kg of Recovery XS yesterday.

MP currently doing Buy 1x1.8kg of Recovery XS and get the 2nd half price - not a bad little saver :)

I'm going to presume here that the recovery XS stuff helps you recover (:p) But what does it actually 'do' without going in to too much detail?

Why does it help you recover? :o

In its most dumbed down explaination, it's whey and fast acting carbs. Get that protein direct to your muscles to replace your glycogen stores. FAR more effective than whey by itself.

LOL :p

There's broscience then there's broscience. :D

Really? Fancy being a tiny bit more constructive with your feedback? :p

I thought the whole idea was to create a big release of insulin post-workout along side a protein intake to increase the protein synthesis and aid in the restoration of glycogen in the muscles?

I'm not arguing, just this is how I've understood it, unless my knowledge is shaky at best!

Oh, I thought you just made a mistake there. Didn't mean to actually make fun! :p

Well, basically, glycogen is carbohydrate storage. So you'd consume carbohydrate, not protein, to restore glycogen stores. As far as I understand it, protein synthesis isn't really directly related to glycogenesis.

Okay.

As Monkee said, I'm under the impression it is best to take a fast acting carb with some protein after a workout...

Would you not do this?

I'm under that impression too, infact a few pages back I'm sure Steedie advised to do so. Sure he uses CNP straight after a workout?

No, if I understand, it's my explaination Smed's poking fun at, not the theory I'm TRYING to explain.

He's saying carbs will refeed your glycogen stores, so it's not the protein being synthesised doing that. So fast acting carbs will help restoring glycogen.

Fast acting carbs also help improve protein synthesis when existing with BCAAs etc so that the muscle can repair with the new protein quicker. But this doesn't relate to the glycogen stores.

Is that a bit more accurate SMed?
