Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Maybe I should have re-read it, I was merely inquiring as to why he was taking it. Which he eventually told me :)

Never mind, **** happens like.

But yeah, slowly beginning to see that Steeds, beginning to understand why some people don't post so much now :o

There'd be a lot more cobwebs around here if you weren't constantly posting Delvis :D No harm in keeping things ticking owa.

I'd had a discussion with my friends who are actually in decent shape about what they use/supps in general. Total mix from one guy just on whey, to one guy with everything short of roids and then the biggest of all of them does nothing but eat. Creatine was agreed upon as the safest/most reliable thing, and since I was replacing my protein bars I figured I might as well try it for one bag. I'm paying weight/gym costs but managed to rope the 'rents in to pay for supps as they know how cruddy the school food is, so while I'm effectively getting it for free I might as well! :P

It'll take a few weeks before I can really tell if the creatine is actually resulting in more growth or just causing the pump after workouts to be more extreme.

Yeah the powder itself mixes far better than anything I've had before, it's just the creapure stuff that doesn't I think, given you have the whey and it mixes perfectly.

To be fair to you, I'd always instantly gone frome hearing 'creatine' to 'roids-infused gym nuts' in my head before actually looking it up and researching it. Had I not looked it up I'd have stayed clear but the vast majority of what I found made sense biologically and backed it up.

Ahh nice one :)

If you can get it for free then why not. Let us know how it gets on, and take progress pics at the start and end of the month, see what happens.

With regards to the mixing, try and mix the whey first separately, then mix in the creapure, see how that goes instead of mixing in one go. Or try the other way around :)

theres a lot of claims that creatine stops working after awhile like your body becomes immune to it but the people who say that still say it gives good boosts for the first few months

I've not tried it, and probably never will. After reading about the asthmatic properties it can cause in some people I'd rather stay clear considering I've had expected heart murmurs and the like in the past :p

thats why there is a lot of information out there about creatine cycling, on for 8-12 weeks and off for 2-4 etc. However there is also information out there that says cycling isnt needed blah blah.

When i use it i feel it gives me that extra boost, just a little, also helps me feel a little more pump. When i dont use it though i can still push the same weights and still make progress, just sometimes that last rep fails 2/3 of the way up or something and i feel i could have pushed it out while using creatine.

Fair chose to make, however there is little to support this, i would suggest to give it a try for 4-8 weeks and if you dont get on with it then stop! you could find you like it, you could find that you use it situationally like me, you might not get on with it all and know not to use it in future. Its a relatively cheap supp with a fair amount of history, so dont write it off just yet!

Yeah I'll keep track of where I am. I'm not lifting massive weights for the moment though as i've said before, so I won't be a poster boy for creatine any time soon. I can't mix them separately unfortunately as the powder comes all mixed up from MP i.e. the brown powder which is the whey and the recovery stuff, and then white patches which I assume are the creapure bits, so it would be really impractical to sieve through every scoop to make sure I'm not putting any creatine in etc.

Given it's just supplementing the existing stores of phosphor creatine in your muscles, there's no way your body could become immune to it, it's like saying your body became immune to glucose. What might happen (haven't checked if this is documented it's just my educated guess) is your body reduces production of phosphor creatine as it realises there are increased creatine stores in your muscles, so you end up having to take more creatine to have the same level of energy. Or possibly you just stop feeling like there's an extra pump because you just get used to your muscles being completely saturated with water every time you work out.

I haven't been lifting long enough or enough weight to really be able to tell if creatine has helped my lifting, all I can say for sure is that the pump is definitely there and though it may mean very little in terms of actual growth, it's a lot of fun and makes the post-workout vanity that much more satisfying haha  Any motivation is a good thing imo

Aye, not written it off, I just don't take anything during or pre-workout. One because I can't be bothered, and two I don't have anything to bring in to work to take it with :p

I'll see, once I get to a stage where I actually struggle to get anywhere during my 'bulk' i'll see if I need a kick to get past a plateau or something.

Oh btw, you can get 1kg wholegrain rice from tesco, but its takes a half a month to cook

The legend used to seek the pump, so I'd class it as a good thing ;)

(Well, my legend anyway :p)

So your whey has the creapure in it? Or did I read that wrong? :p Mix the whey separately, then add the creapure...If its all mixed in then BAH! :( Might be worth getting a better mixer?

I had a mixer that had this metal wire ball thing in it that you shook, it was ok but left lumps, then i got a few more different types of shaker and the best one ive had so far has like this plastic grid that sits at the top of the cup just under the lid and it mixes perfectly every time.

Where is it those flapjacks where linked to recently? Ended up less than a quid when brought in a big box......

Someone posted up making flapjacks with oats whey and a microwave

made some myself, messed up the first batch a bit as it ended up a bit too wet - it was gone in 1 hour though.

second batch - tastes friggin amazing, completely different postcode to the mp/cnp stuff.

Hi chaps, not ventured into this sub forum before but after a little bit of advice. So after a few years out of the gym I've just got back into it over the last few weeks. Whilst at Uni I was regularly going 3-4 times a week with at least one or two nights of footy but since graduating and working (and getting a missus) it went downhill. So my diet is pretty good but after some advice on what protein shake/supplements to go for. My routine at the minute is gym 4 times per week which involves cardio/warm up for around 30 minutes then 1-1.5hr of weights. I've have a read of the op but not really sure where to start. I'm guessing just starting with a whey protein based shake to improve recovery perhaps just after training for the next couple of months whilst I get back upto speed and previous strength. I'm probably still carrying a few extra pounds (although my build is fairly slim) around the waist so probably would be after something with relatively low carbs. Am I on the right track or whey off? Any advice welcomed.:)

Any thoughts?

Get some whey protein, or whey isolate if you don't mind spending a little bit more. Also some dextrose to throw in post workout

Maybe throw in some creatine and you're good to go

Some oats for a breakfast, snack replacement if your that way inclined.

I use it for my breakfast, well not for the next 10 weeks as I'm paying for breakfast every morning, so its 5slices of bacon and 3 poached eggs for £1.20 :p
