Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Pulse is good but as steedie says, it's certainly not the most potent on the market. I used to add an extra 50-100mg caffeine to a full serving of it which was good but bear in mind i drink a lot of coffee.

Much much better. It gives you a serious energy boost, that will obviously fade if you use it too often (as will every pre workout), but use it as and when you need it and, it's definitely a boost.

The taste is....unique, but the best and most useful supplements are often the worst tasting too :D

It's cheap too, £23 for a months supply (I have bought from here loads, it's a great site)

I'll be looking to stock up on protein before the 20% rise, what's the best way to get myprotein cheaper, any price mathing links about?

Has anyone tried the carb drink from myprotein? I'm thinking of getting that instead of high5 for my cycling as it will work out cheaper.

Took your recommendation Steedie and bought some Neurocore yesterday and tried it tonight. Absolutely bouncing off the walls on the way to the gym! My lifts were very good considering I've got a pretty awful cold(must be man flu!), coughing my lungs up and barely had a winks sleep in two nights! The pump was pretty awesome too especially for the price! Definitely going to keep taking it and report back when my health is up!

Oh and you're right, it's ******* disgusting :p

If you want a boost for the gym coffee is great. Add a banana for energy and you should be away.

totally agree..lol. Dont know how people can spend all that cash on rubbish..which is essentailly caffiene based anyway. 50g peanut butter, 1 x banana and a strong black coffee keeps me going for ages :)
Thing is...as soon as you do a set or two...i get a natural pump which makes me want to do more. If you dont get that I recon dont bother your ass.

Well I wouldn't say it's rubbish but it's certainly not needed. But make no mistake about these companies and their slick marketing. They make you think you need it.

As FF said, coffee and a banana would benefit you just as much.

Two servings of strong filter coffee and perhaps an apple and I'm hopping with energy.

Then again, I've been training for so long my body just accept that heavy stuff will be piled onto it and adjust its energy levels accordingly.

Personally i'm really going to miss DMAA once it goes for good. I'm in the gym at 6.30am and i need a pre-workout supp to get the most from these early morning sessions. I have always used Jack3d and find it to be brilliant, and at under £20 for over 6 weeks worth, its about as good value as pre-workout supps go.

As an experiment, i used a free sample of a new pre workout supp which DOESNT have DMAA in it and it was rubbish, i actually went back to bed!

What Jack3d does for me is not only wake me up but it motivates me. I dont know how, but it does. I've used it on a non-workout day before and stuff i was able to cross of my to-do list was insane! :D

I'm going to be doing my best to stock up before it disappears entirely.

Normally I'd agree with you FF. I've been taking a cup of coffee pre-workout for the past 3 years, actually following your own advice and prompted by discussions on here. It definitely helps. However, I'm working long hours trying to hit deadlines and I find I need that extra boost when it comes to training time on week nights. After trying Neurocore last night, it definitely gave me far more of a boost than my normal pre-workout coffee. Infact, the difference is fairly huge!

That's coming from someone who doesn't use supps at all, not even post-workout proteins, purely diet!

I can live with £23 for a tub!

Addicted to an pseudo-amphetamine? How strange. ;)

The reasons you've listed are the exact reasons I've stopped taking DMAA containing supps, personally I ended up getting to like them a bit too much especially if I'd had a long weekend working security then back in the office on Monday.
The big buzz is nice to start but then the crash was getting silly.

I'm completely off caffeine now, feel so much better for it.

I'm the same dropped it at the start of the week, felt rough for the first day or 2 but it's nice to get home from work and not just want to crash out because I've not had any caffeine in a few hours.

I know exactly what you mean: I decaffeinate once a year to coincide with my religious fast and - after the first week of pain and fuzzy headed-ness - the clarity I just awesome.

Then I fall back to rubbish routine and my dependence builds up again. :(

My problem is also that I actually really like the taste of coffee. :D

Whenever I come off Caffeine I get some painful caffeine crash headaches for about a week, but fine afterwards! Although I wont be coming off it for awhile as I need it to keep awake in the morning and get in the mood for Workout.

I've tried caffeine, Jack3d and Superpump Max, each had pretty much no effect other than making me feel a bit sick. Thus I think I have a high resistance to stims, never really drink coffee so it's not a gradual resistance build up.

Would love to find a pre-workout which worked but to be honest I find it's more of a mental thing anyway. I can go to the gym after having some complex carbs and a banana and still find I can't really push hard. Yet if I go with my mate I usually do very well. Scumbag brain.

Possibly, but it could also be that your body is so senstive to them that you wind up with an overstimulation of your brain, manifesting itself as nausea.

You don't need a pre-workout ;)
My lifts have been solid this week without any, I've even set a PB.
