Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Yeah, that's what I was looking for, couldn't find it on the bag. And can't check online right now...

Well, I could, it's just a pain on the go....

AH! Sorry, thought you couldn't find it on MP's site :)

Cheers, was what I was looking for.

Now, does anyone happen to have tips etc... for putting together:
a) Whey + Peanut Butter Shakes
b) Whey + Oats Shakes

About half way through my first shake, and I have so far learnt the following:
  • Unflavoured whey smells unbelievably strongly of milk. It's odd. That first whiff of whey.
  • Too much water results in a watery consistency to shakes (duh!), but it also dilutes the flavour (duh!). Chocolate diluted, just tastes weird. Less water next time.
  • Whey doesn't have to be put in after the water, but it probably does help...
  • Peanut butter is a right pain in the backside (mixing)
  • Peanut butter is odd in shakes.
  • Nesquik definitely works at sorting out the flavour. If not for the fact I massively overly diluted.
  • Whilst it fixes the taste though, the smell is still unbelievably overpoweringly of peanut butter

Sooo...

Debate:
What ratio of whey to water?
10g/100ml? what's your choice.

30g/600ml - too watery!

Think I might try 30/300 tomorrow.

25g whey per 200ml liquid is my sweet spot.

For the ultimate shake:

450ml full fat milk
50g whey (banana or choc)
50g peanut butter

Steedie banned dairy :p

But chocolate seems an ok combination with peanut butter. Somehow I think I'll be getting rid of the strawberry nesquik in the morning (with the oats), and chocolate in the evening (with the peanut butter)

Yeah, just the overarching smell of peanuts was quite something!

Strawberry this morning with oats though was actually quite nice :)

Strawberry + unflavoured whey tastes quite good together. I think this is partially down to the gf pointing out that unflavoured whey smells like white chocolate though..

Out of interest does anyone factor in the amount of evaporation that would take place in the time from pouring the water from tap to their shaker?

-_-

I meant purely for my shakes.

I can't believe you thought he was being serious :p

For reference though, I just fill up two 1.5L bottles in the morning with squash. Make sure I've finished them by the time I've gone to bed. Sorted.

I tend to drink about 1L on top of that anyway, as I'll have a smoothie at some point (~250ml), 2 shakes (~500ml), and whatever I drink whilst training (~500ml-1l)

Nope, because shaker has a measurer on it. So I measure from shaker, not from tap :p

Also drink from shaker, so don't have to worry about evaporation there either...

To deal with the evapouration, I just drink directly from the tap, then pour the powder in to my mouth. This also helps with protein synthesis, as the body can deal with it better if it's in one big powder lump in your stomach.

Although sometimes I also put a ball shaker in my mouth (oo-er missus) and do a bit of headbanger to Fire Starter.

Srs rspnse. F-T-W.

I actually swallow some steel wool to act as a mixing mesh in my stomach to atomise all the proteinz.

With my uber FF blend (tm) that I use. I just use a tumbler, scoop out my mix, shove it into a shaker that's 1/2 filled approximately (with water), and enjoy (I actually don't as it doesn't taste very nice). A tumbler is about 80g or so though I guess. Need to measure it actually!

It is used for recovery rather than supplementation.

Yup. :) I take BCAAs if I haven't had time to eat properly before my workout.

The blend I have is only partially protein.

I don't mind supplementation - I just don't advocate taking shakes every day unless you need to supplement your diet owing to issues (be they time or money).
