Supplements the debate/discussion thread

I never cycle creatine either, or take it with carbs, or grapefruit juice or whatever the latest recommended thing is. What I do always do though is put it in warm water, to dissolve it first before drinking it. To be honest no idea if it actually makes a difference, just I've always done it!

So you take something without noticing a difference? Interesting. ;)

Research would suggest you are doing nothing other than wasting money, then. :(

Just have it in a glass of milk.

I notice the difference taking the creatine, I meant dissolving it first. Only money im really wasting is boiling the kettle :D

Im sure I read somewhere it helps with stomach bloating to do that first, and I dont get any bloating so had no reason to stop.

I'm loathed to ask this after some Googling revealed some guy called Nate and his "views", but does anyone take a multi-vit or similar? I was sitting on the tube yesterday and saw the wellman adverts (wow, advertising does work!).

We get a veg box delivered weekly so I expect I'm eating lots of fresh stuff but what about fish oils etc? I don't have achey joints but is there an pre-emptive strike I should be doing as I totter towards middle age?

Only supplements is whey currently, and a free sample of MyProtein Nutri Greens

No you don't need to if you have a well balanced diet. I had a full health check 10 months ago, including numerous blood tests to do numerous checks and all my levels were optimal for my age and so on. I supplement only with fish oils (in small quantities) and protein to get extra nutrition in me and a selective choice of amino acids that I feel add benefit to me.

TVM - I'll save the cash then!

It does chime with something I've been thinking for a while that we should all get called to our GP every ten years or so for a complete checkup and stiff talking to if we're not doing what we should. The expense of a slideshow of lung cancer might well be worth the shock value if it stops someone smoking a pack a day and costing the NHS more in 20-30 years time. Not so relevant here but a proper blood levels check seems logical to me - it's so fast and cheap now.

Indeed true; I know several health care professionals and that's exactly why they say it wouldn't work. Forced participation maybe? In a Bagpuss led dictatorship things would be so much simpler...

I do take multivitamins.
On average I probably spend about £2/month.
I use it as a "top up", just in case I am lacking anything in my diet.
These things are so cheap, I don't see the harm.

Oh and advertising absolutely works. Companies spend a big percentage of their overall income on advertising, because they know it works.

Waste of time if you don't have a balanced diet. Agreed.
But if you don't have a balanced diet, then vitamin pills definitely have a place (I have anecdotal evidence of this).

And the difference between an expensive vit pill and a cheap one?
The money spent on advertising.
If a company spends £10M on advertising it will plan to recoup this by charging more per pill.
The same holds true for virtually all health supplements.

Advertising and marketing works 100% - people fall for it.

MaxiMuscle have done very well on the strength of their advertising and sponsorships. They charge more, per given product, compared with MyProtein (or any other bulk supplier).
