Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Smolov survival stack ordered.

Whey protein in different flavours because boredom sucks
ZMA because I've been sleeping poorly this last month and I hope it helps
Protein muffin because they look yummy (and are therefore probably terrible nutritionwise)
Protein chocs (equally poor nutrition wise but they were free)
Big rubber band because I need to warm up better

Think that's it :)

A few bargains to be had on Myprotein at the moment: http://www.myprotein.com/our-range/clearance-shop.list

I use this Creapure formula as part of my PWO shake along with unflavoured whey: Creastorm
Discount codes work with this offer so if you can find a 25% - 20% off code then you can pick 1.5kg of this up for under £9.00. A rival product like this would usually cost around £30+

I use this Pre-Workout forumla for a pick me up and it works as well as anything else out there. None of those silly pump prodcuts in it which is a bonus. Thermo-Extreme
Again same as above this can be had for around £8.00, rival products can cost 3 or 4 times that amount.

Other things worth looking at, the lifting straps, dipping belt and foam roller are all usefull tools and on offer. One of the most under-rated supplements of all is HMB and that is also on offer and certainly worth a look if you're looking to lose some fat and keep those hard earned gainz!

I just received my £70+ order from Myprotein, including a 20% discount.
There are some good prices to be had from MP.
I bought some cashew butter for around £7.
I'd say that 90% of all my supplements come from MP, due to their competitive pricing and range. No other supplement even comes close (when you factor is discount codes).

Picked up another bargain, this time from Oneon. Haven't used them in over 2 years, logged in and saw they had given me 1000 points for screwing up my last order in 2012, so got £10 discount using them, also used Quidco for a further £1.50 cashback, so cost £16.45 in total along with the sale and BOGOF offers :)

1.8kg of glutamine
400g Leucine
2kg of Aktivated Barley

Delivered for less than the price MP sell 1kg of Aktivated Barley. It's not worth the £20+ per KG they charge but it's a lot easier on the guts than oats, which don't agee with me in large amounts.

Im interested that you say that oats are not easy on the gut.
What do you mean by this?

Myself, if I have raw oats in a protein shake (for example), I get sickly feeling. However, when I cook the oats, no such problems.

Look up avenin and phytic acid. Avenin in oats is a protein similar to gluten found in wheat. If you soak your oats in water and something like greek yogurt at room temperature for 24 hours, this can "get rid of most of the bad stuff".

Just about to start weight lifting again properly after a number of years of not doing it and losing about 1 1/2 stone of muscle.

Just ordered some 'Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein' from Amazon. Seemed to get some good reviews and I found that Whey protein plus creatine really boosted my weight gains (and was a lot more enjoyable than raw egg).

Will see how this goes.

Save yourself some money and check myprotien/the protien works etc.

Much cheaper, same stuff.

Tried my 'Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein' earlier today - chocolate mint flavour, actually tasted like aero. So much better than the stuff I used to use years ago that had to be in too larger volume and used to make me feel sick!

When is the best time to take the protein and how much per day? I generally have a 'scoop' post workout, but should I add another in the day? Should I consume at least a scoop a day?

Protein is protein no matter what time of day, have it when you want there's no "best time" as such. Also if training frequent aim for 1g protein per 1lb bodyweight, I'd try have no more than 2 scoops a day and eat meats and other foods for obvious reasons. If your eating enough protein with 1 scoop stick with that.

Way too much.

0.8g absolute max. Anything more is wasted unless you're drinking um-bongo, nomsayin?

Less protons, more caaaaarbs.

You shouldn't really 'need' whey, it's not difficult to hit 200g+ (too much) without using a supplement and without eating a tone of expensive meat.

Ive seen the infomercials for the nutribullet.
I've not used it, but it does what it says on the tin. Its not a gimmick.
These reviews testify to this.

The problem with juicers (and similar) is that they enable you to intake A LOT of fruit (and their sugar), quickly. There are studies which suggest that eating fruit is good. BUT drinking fruit is bad, simply because it allows you to consume huge amounts calories and sugar in a few minutes, which in turn can lead to weight gain. You should be aware that people can get fat drinking lots of fruit juice.

If however, you still want to go for a juicer/crusher, then by all means go for it. Just dont assume that eating lots of crushed fruit is always a good thing.

Thanks mate, I was thinking about using it once a day to blend some spinach, some whey powder and a 2/3 fruits.
