The tree, which is one of the UK's most photographed, was made famous after it featured in the 1991 Kevin Costner film Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. One man who proposed under it said he chose the place so he could revisit one day with his family.
No way that was done by a 16yr old.
Probably taking the fall because he's a minor.

I agree with this. Unfortunately the punishment haardly ever fits the crime. If they ever catch this moron he'll probably get a bit of community service and a fine.

I appreciate the Special Branch joke, but this type of comment in threads is getting a bit old, especially as they arrested someone within 12 hours.

My son as a 16 year old was a rugby player and weight trainer. Some 16 years olds could definitely do that (he has an alibi before anyone asks).

same! tbh, it didn't feel that significant at the time, but now I'm v glad I got to see itI'm absolutey gutted. Only went to see it for the first time this year. Just a horrible act of vandalism.
